TARDIS - St Johns Ambulance logo

Spotted the SJA logo on the new TARDIS in these SPOILER pics:

Just wondering what the significance of the logo is. Seem to remember it being present in yesteryear.

Any thoughts?

The Tardis seems to have been "rebooted" (I mean that in the technical, not literary sense) to how it originally looked in the old, old series. We know they've had to rework the interior for HD anyway, so my guess would be that the new Doc has applied a new "desktop theme" to the inside, perhaps getting some momentary life out of the old, broken chameleon circuit, and in the process the exterior get's refreshed too. Cue some throwaway reference along the lines of "I wondered where you'd got to" and voila - a whole new range of merchandise.

hahaha!

The Dr is a Johnnie. Hope someone has informed division!

My friend (a fellow Johnnie) predicted something like this. She always said the Doc's new companion should be either a nurse or a first aider.

I love the return of the white windows. But, gosh - isn't the box much BIGGER? I think it's a bit too-new as well, I'm used to seeing it battered and weather-worn! But as mentioned above, it must have been re-vamped by the partly-working Chameleon-circuit when the interior got done! Love it anyway (And Matt!!)

The Sarah Jane Adventures logo? That's one in-joke too far. Curse you, Mr Moffat.

Yes, it used to be there on the original prop as did the white windows.

I don't think the photos do the prop justice at the moment and I suspect that the grading process will revert it to a more familiar hue. It actually looks like it's made of wood now for the HD generation.

Definitely getting a HD TV and Sky+HD box before next Easter now!

Pretty sure that prop wouldn't stand up to HD scrutiny these days. Then again neither would Billy!

I still find it a little odd seeing Hartnell and Troughton pics in colour.

Have you seen some of the colourised footage on Youtube? It's brilliant and wierd at the same time

Fluke. St Johns had the acronym first. LOL

Yes, I've had a go or two or three on Annie. Talkative one.

It's probably just there because Moffat likes that version of the Tardis, along with it's white windows.

Or if I wanted to completely leave my sanity behind, I would say it was there because for some convoluted reason as yet unexplained, Matt Smith is really playing the first Dr but a younger version. This of course allows DT to live on for the show could not live without him.

Ah sarcasm, how I love thee.

Well there is a movie starring Tennant rumoured, which would have to be set before Waters of Mars (in the Doctor's timeline) if he regenerates. But with your theory, it could still be set in the present day.

If that was the case, he would have a fully-working chameleon circuit. Pedants will recall that the chameleon circuit actually broke during An Unearthly Child when the TARDIS travelled from 1963 to 100,000 BC.

Some people also believe that he took the name The Doctor as a result of Ian and Barbara calling him that, which would also mean that the "first Doctor" doesn't necessarily have to be the Time Lord's first incarnation.

I originally thought that the SJA logo perhaps signified that this was a previous version of the TARDIS that Doc11 had somehow got hold of. However I'm going to backtrack. I think there will probably be a very simple, throwaway explaination for the logo.

My money is on Amy putting it there - she's perhaps a SJA member when they meet and she sticks it to the door when she officially joins the Doc on her travels. A simple explanation for modern viewers, and a great nod to the past for die-hard fans.

I've always assumed that the Chameleon Circuit has occasional "flutters" which make the Tardis appear slightly different.

There are a few stories in which the Tardis lands without the light on top. Sometimes the windows look a bit different. There used to be white window frames, and they are coming back again shortly. The St. John emblem has disappeared, but is soon to reappear. Sometimes the Tardis is a bit more blue than on other occasions.

All of this is down to Chameleon Circuit "flutters" or "shudders".

Yeah, it's probably a combination of Moffat's love of that era, mixed in with a chance to big up the work of the St. John's Ambulance.

Anyone know if Moffat is a big football fan, or simply a fan of the SJA's work?

Alternatively the St. John's Ambulance may have have been present on the set in the past during stunt work - and it might just be his way of thanking them for being a safety net for the crew, while pleasing the fans at the same time.

Loving the idea of 'flutters'. A simple, but beautifully descriptive way of getting around the thorny issue of continuity.

Certainly an easy explanation. Alternatively, slight changes to its appearance (within the overall blue box theme) are the TARDIS's equivalent of getting bored with its look and having a new haircut or makeover Even a sentient extradimensional time travel machine might want a new look from time to time!

An acronym is a word made out of the initials letters of other words, such as laser (light amplification simulated emission of radiation) or, indeed, TARDIS (time and relative dimensions in space). SJA in itself isn't a word so is therefore just an initialisation, not an acronym.

I reckon something suitabley awful will happen at the end of the 10th Doctor's travel which will mean that 11 has to have a 'new old' TARDIS;
