For example, Take That ?

Why can't we (UK citizens) watch UK bands (on YouTube) ? It just doesn't make sense - non-UK folk can watch them but *we* can't ?!

The British Performing Right Society (PRS, who monitor how much major record labels and artists make from music and performances) wanted YouTube to start paying singers for hosting their videos on their website.

YouTube said no, and the PRS imposed a ban, making it illegal for any artist from any of the record labels they monitor to upload a music video for UK audiences.

PRS represent most of the major record labels, so that's why you can't watch Take That.

Ah, I see.

Thank you, Oracle.

Tis just a few more "middle men" getting in the way, pretending to protect the artists but probably causing more harm.

People will just look elsewhere, perhaps look into piracy.

I don't know about you, but I like to use YouTube (and other sites) for previewing songs before I go out and buy an album.

Use Google Video. They take vids from everywhere, so something will come up that works.

The reason you can't listen to a lot of more mainstream music and videos on YouTube is because some major companies threw hissy fits over royalties. First it was Warner, deciding that no track they had copyright over could be played on YouTube at all, then someone else came in and decided to whack the UK in the face by deciding that all music videos attached to their label can't be played there.

Daily Motion is a good site too. I don't know why PRS targeted YouTube explicitly (they don't seem to care about sister-site Google Video or Daily Motion).

It's a right load of nonsense. I bet we're the only European country who suffers this kind of crap too. Bloody nanny state always trying to put everything under the cosh.
Saying that just visit youtube through a proxy "IP Hider" site like Hypercloak. You can watch anything then.
