New BT line suddenly stopped working

Had a phone line transferred over from my old house today (basically it's a new line but with my old number). Everything was working fine while the engineer was here and immediately after she left.
But, I've just tried to make another call and got a number not recognised message - tried some more numbers and I'm getting the same message on every number (even 1471)!
The only one which seems to work is the BT line test number which is saying my line is defined as a different number to what it was a few hours ago (ie, my old number) - I tried calling this number from my mobile but it doesn't seem to exist.

Has anyone ever seen such an odd problem before?
