ITV HD Red Button problems...
Has anyone had their HDR refuse to show the HD stream on a valid ITV HD program? (The Bill this evening for example...)
Our box doesn't seem to want to show ITV HD at all anymore now; even though the "Press Red..." etc prompt comes up... Just comes up with a blank screen, no sound and the "Press Blue..." etc prompt to return to main channel... (I should quickly add that BBC HD works and records fine...) |

I had this the other week and had to do a factory reset to fix the problem. Switching the power off the box and on again wouldn't do the trick. You lose all the scheduled recordings when you do this so to avoid marital strife make sure you know exactly what was due to be recorded before you do the fix.

In the past, sometimes ITV allegedly forgot to put the HD identifier on the EPG so you can't get HD even though its shown as HD. I don't know what happened here, but don't just assume it was the box.

This has happened before, and it has seemed to co-incide with ITV having some problem with their HD transmission e.g. cutting out completely/blank screen, freezing on screen, dropping in & out of HD/SD, etc. Something in the HD stream, when this happens seems to upset some HDRs (not all). It may be that those not tuned into ITV, or ITV HD, don't get affected, or boxes in Standby at the time, but no-one really knows. Nor does anyone know whether it is ITV's fault, or Humax's.
What is certain, is that it wouldn't happen if it was proper channel instead of a Red Button Service - very frustrating if it happens, as has been mentioned a factory reset is required and you lose all your User Settings & Scheduled Timers. It may have been like this on your box for a while, if you don't watch much ITV HD, without you noticing. Rgds. Les. |

I got the same problem but didn't see this thread so started another i wait for the bill tomorrow to see if reset factory setting and re setting up have fixed
![]() More worryingly, I think I've discovered another "feature" of the Humax Foxsat HDR which I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere... (yet!) Before I did the reset, I copied stuff I wanted to keep over onto my external USB drive so that I could retrieve it after the reset. At the end of this, the drive showed absolutely zero content because after copying everything, I erased it all (bear in mind that at my last reset I had reformatted and reduced the photo section down to the minimum 1Gb). After the reset and retune, I went to reformat the HDD (because I thought I needed to) and strangely, even though "Media" was showing nothing, the HDD was showing 19.7Gb used! ![]() So, I went ahead and reformatted any way and sure enough when it was finished it showed the disc as being empty. Perhaps I've stumbled upon some bad HDD housekeeping by the OS perchance?? Colin |

A factory reset fixed mine no problem and ITV HD now works correctly.
Before I did the reset, I copied stuff I wanted to keep over onto my external USB drive so that I could retrieve it after the reset. After the reset and retune, I went to reformat the HDD (because I thought I needed to) What you will lose are any program schedules you have set up (so it's worth taking a note of them), plus any configuration changes you have made to the unit (any changes you have made after pressing Menu). All this stuff is held in internal non-volatile memory and gets wiped. A factory reset is a pain, not a disaster. That does not answer your question, but it was not necessary to do in the first place. |
