You dont have to have freeview, you will still be able to get the on demand content, although this cannot be recorded on the internal harddrive.
You may have problems ordering it through bt, sometimes if you are not in a freeview coverage area they will not let you take out a contract for it, even if you insist that you are not bothered about freeview.
