Torchwood Children of Earth "Not to be referenced as such" in specials -RTD
JessicaL

according to ew.com

Quote:
“Question: Will the events of Torchwood: Children of Earth be referenced in any way during the upcoming Dr. Who speciials? --Patrick
Ausiello: "Not as such, no," says Davies, who is editing Dr. Who's "great big finale" as we speak. "My God, these [specials] are brilliant. I’m really happy with them."
”

My guess is if Ten sees Jack again the characters will acknowledge time having passed .. Jack is healing so no mention ..

So pleased RTD is happy with the specials

I like how he changes the subject so quickly

Not as such isn't a definite no, though.
Over-analyze time!

I agree with you, 'not as such' actually says to me 'indirectly, yes'.

Not as such= something like

Doctor: "Why are you on that spaceship, what happened to Torchwood?"

Jack: "Long Story"

Doctor: "I'm not going anywhere..."

*something else exciting happens meaning the Doctor and Jack have to run off and have no time to catch up properly!*

Not as such that either....no...

Yeah I imagine it is just an acknowledgement rather than anything else.

If the Doctor encounters Jack in the specials, it could be set anywhere in Jack's timeline- so a long time may have elapsed for him. Or it could be before CoE, though I doubt this would be the case, we tend to follow events on 21st century Earth pretty much in order, presumably to avoid confusing the audience.

However, my guess is that CoE will be obliquely referred to, but not discussed properly- the target audience for Dr Who encompasses far younger people that that of CoE, who shouldn't be encouraged to watch it until they're older.

Probably something along the lines of 'Where were you?' 'Dangling from my ankles chained up in a defunct marshmallow factory on Hrgnathagora, I can't always be on Earth, and can't go back and change things you're involved in thanks to you being a fixed point in space and time. Now, help me get this aligned, tracks all kinds of weird and wonderful stuff this does. Just take that control there- no, the one shaped like a giraffe- and stand waay over there....' *VWARP VWARP *

I believe RTD wouldn't want to use a family show to promote an adult show. RTD may have been happy to show the Torchwood team in TSE/JE, but I'm sure he'll avoid explicit reference to a specific adults-only adventure.

I gather that Donna is going to appear in the specials? if so then it would be quite funny if she referenced the events from 'Children Of Earth' like the kids speaking in unison and freaking her out. Then they wouldnt have to actually mention the Torchwood team itself?

Where did you hear the specials are set in 2004?
Spoiler

are you talking about the scene with David and Billie?

Personally I don't believe that scene is as it seems-just because you see a fragile staggering Doctor does not have to mean regeneration -we've seen the Doctor sick and fragile before after all ..
-really would the bbc film such a death scene in public in front of fans and media for it to be leaked all over the place within the hour in no context or storyline at all -na I don't believe it.My guess is Ten is staggering because the poor thing is being pushed from place to place as a foe toys with his life -he's suffering dream sequences and fantasy -so much happening -not knowing where he is or what to do so he staggers .I just so hope if i'm right unlike fragile Ten in Midnight -this time Ten gets to be the hero ..

Back on topic I posted a scenario the other day would fit a "not mentioned as such" context ..

Spoiler
What does everyone think of the idea that Jack might be revealed to be Ten's companion in the Waters of Mars?

Adelaide and her crew could be on Mars at any time ...what about the scenario that The waters of Mars opens with Ten and Jack in the TARDIS -Jack's revealed to have been on his travels with the Doctor for a while -a few references to offscreen adventures as they find their way to Adelaide and her crew ..

This would put the first Ten/Jack meeting since Children of earth offscreen and time having passed since -Jack healing and doing better ..

This of course would backtrack totally on RTD's claim that Ten was to travel alone ...but RTD never fibs does he ...

I think that it would be a good idea if Jack was the Doctor's companion in 'The Waters Of Mars' though i also think it would be a good idea if the Doctor arrives alone and to his surprise finds Jack working for Adelaide.

Doctor: Why are you here? what about Torchwood?

Jack: I'd rather not talk about it

So the events could be mentioned slightly but not in a big way.

I dunno, just an idea
