joke a day
My daughter has ordered a joke a day and doesn't know how to stop them sending them, it is costing here 50p a day money she could need if she needs to contact us, anyway I was wondering if anyone knows how to stop them.

depends were she got it from. if it was from a tv advert, see will have to wait for the tv ad to re-appear and read the small print. somewhere there it will say how to stop it.

Try making a complaint to Icstis
They should be able to tell you what company it is and contact details for them. I know they were trying to get every company that uses these SMS services to use the same 'stop' code...i'm sure it is infact the word STOP to the number sending the texts. Worth a try |

You need to contact the Content Provider of this service. speak to your mobile network operator who will be able to give you the contact details of the Service Provider who operates this shortcode. Either they or one of their Content Providers will be responsible for this service and you should certainly be able to request that your mobile number is removed from their subscription service
Good luck Simon |

Hi Anthony
Working for Vodafone, I hear this all the time. If your daughter receives a message from a service like Joke For A Day etc, the text received will have a number from the sender (and I am aware that not all do this) - you could try replying saying "STOP" "CANCEL". The best bet would be to do as Mobilecrazy says and speak to your network provider. I know that VF have an internal department who can trace the numbers and advise on how to cancel the service. Good Luck ! |

Mobile text jokes
Hi Anthony,
I have the same problem, I ordered these jokes from an advert on MTV and cannot seem to stop them! Have you solved the problem yet? If so, I would be very grateful if you could pass this information on to me. Cheers |

This happened to a friend of mine too.
If you contact ICTIS they will tell you who owns 85050 I'd be very interested to know. |

Just out of curiosity, were the jokes any good or was it really just money for nothing?

85050 jokes
My nephew subscribed to this line, we rung Orange and they told us to text joke stop to 85050.
This resulted in a return text from them saying succesfully unsubscribed. Failing this, Orange gave us the phone number for that provider. It is 08707 502929. Orange also said that they can't do anything to block these texts from being sent from the phones in the first place unfortunately. Hope this helps you all. Cheers Richard |

I've sent numerous messages to 85050 to try and stop them but none seemed to work.
Today I got a reply from ICSTIS who informed me that the service is provided by NETSIZE UK LTD on 0870 750 2900. I've just called them and asked to be removed from their register, and I should be joke free within 24 hours. |

Text 85050 Thanks for all your help. Got the following information the company who send the jokes out are based in the netherlands called The Mobile Generation. tel +31 652382569 e mail info@tmg-company.com. Perhaps if we all bombarded them with our complaints, it may help others

Did any of the people who sent "stop joke" messages or phoned the 0870 number have any success in stopping these jokes?

I have just found out that my daughter subscribed to this so called service a couple of weeks ago - thankfully she is on a PAYG service so she lost a relatively small amount of money.
I tried sending the JOKE STOP message to 85050 and received a return message telling me that she was not subscribed to this service, they also charged 50p for the privilege. After asking my daughter, I found that she had activated the service with the word FUN. I sent the message FUN STOP to 85050 and received a return message informing me that the service has been stopped. Hopefully this will help other users. PS the web site that appears to be promoting this, is sms4luck.co.uk |

Change your ISP I'm sorry if this sounds harsh to the people with this problem, but if you are stupid enough to waste your money ordering all this crap from them then I think you deserve what you get. Do you not realise they are a business trying to make money from people with more money than sense? |

Surely if you subscribe to a service like this you have no grounds for complaint. You should check the terms and conditions and smallprint before subscribing. I get this all the time in my job, people just don't bother reading T&Cs or smallprint then complain afterwards.
