I've had my HD-R set up to record the Tour de France highlights programmes. It's done this perfectly well, but yesterday it felt it necessary to record the final prog from ITV4 and then record it again on ITV4+1. Broadcaster mucking up the data or Humax confusion?

Also I've just noticed that it didn't record Top Gear last night (too busy with the cycling perhaps) but it is going to catch tonight's repeat for me. From BBC2 Scotland. Not that it matters but oughtn't it prefer BBC2 England when that's the local region?

There have been problems with TDF, so I presume ITV4 got the CRID data wrong.

With TG, if you set up the Sunday night prog from BBC2 England, that's where it should attempt to record from, it shouldn't attempt from BBC2 Scotland (again, unless BBC gave it the same CRID Data). It should not attempt to get the repeat tonight, as that is set up as a different Series, so you should set this up yourself if you want to catch it.

Yes, C5 cock-up their Series Links, the "opposite" way round to the way BBC have cocked up the Top Gear Series.

The way SL is supposed to work is that ALL programmes in the Series, both first showing episodes & repeats, have the SAME Series CRID, then all first showing episodes have different Prog CRIDs, then all repeats have the SAME Prog CRIDs as the respective first episodes.

So, the boxes know which to choose from in the Series to record, and where to offer an alternative if there is a clash.

With TG, the BBC have set up the originals as one Series, and the repeats as a different Series, so you won't get the clash alternatives.

With C5, they correctly set them all up with the same Series CRIDs, but flag every episode, original & repeats (multiple), with different Prog CRIDs, so the boxes think each is a new episode to record.

One day, these people will understand how to do it correctly, and life will be so much easier

Hm. Well interestingly enough it did record tonight's repeat from the Scottish channel, and has set a scheduled recording for the next episode - the Sunday broadcast on BBC2 England.

Funny you saying it scheduled a recording from BBC2 Scotland. I had a Mock the week in my planner for BBC2 Scotland and thought I was going do lally, as I could not remember putting it there.

Well, this is very interesting.

The regional BBC2 Channels have all the same CRID data as BBC2 England. So, I can see how it could link the original progs across regions, and the repeats across regions. But, I'm not sure what would trigger it to switch to one of the other channels; it can't be a clash as they are on at the same time. The only thing I can think of that may set this up would be (at the time of scheduling) to set up a recording & a watch on channels that would take up 2 tuners, then scheduling TG, and it works out that by switching to BBC2 Scotland enables the 2 recordings to take place, & watching the 3rd channel, but I bet that's not what you did

As for your "repeat" timer going on to schedule next week's "original" show, this just shouldn't be possible

The Sunday Series has a Series CRID of ........KMMZ10, and the Monday repeat Series has a Series CRID of .........KMP8AO (I've omitted the common format first part of the CRIDs). Interestingly, the Beeb has correctly given them the same Prog CRID of ....IRE92T, which would identify the second one as the same episode, hence a repeat, but with the different Series CRID.

So, I don't know how your timer moved from the "repeat" series to the "original" series with those CRIDs as they are

You definitely don't have two separate timers in the Schedule, do you, one for next Sun, and another for next Mon?

No, just the one timer. Here's how it is:

- I've just got the one tuner (flat, no chance of a 2nd lnb)
- TG (sun pm) has been on series link for weeks
- TdF on link since last Monday
- This causes a clash on Sunday evening

So it's resolved the clash by switching TG to a repeat (but chosen an odd channel), and moved the TdF to the repeat on the +1 and recorded the original TdF broadcast in any case.

And, we go back to the original TG series presumably because that is how the series link was set up in the first place.

If you set a recording for ITV4, already having a recording on BBC2 England, it will re-arrange it. You can't record ITV4 & BBC2 England together with a single cable. You can record ITV4+1 and BBC2 England or Scotland at the same time, by the way.

I would have thought it would have resolved the clash by moving TDF to ITV4+1, and leaving TG on BBC2 England alone. But your clash appears to have been caused by it trying to record ITV4 as well (as indicated in your OP), so it had to move TG. But how it managed to find the repeat on Monday, with the different Series CRID, is beyond me

Moving the timer back to the original Sunday, should be the correct action, as you say, as that is how you originally set it up, but as above, I'm mystified as to how it's managed to do this with the CRID data.

Definitely a weird one, this.
