One thing ive been confused about with the Arlene fired chaos thats been going on is how lots of people, both in media and on this very forum have done a complete U-Turn about Arlene.

Back with the John Sergeant fiasco (and the Tom Chambers one) it was pretty impossible to move round the forum and the newspapers without seeing another 'Arlene should be sacked' comment mentioning her harshness and cruel words.

Now over when she is actually sacked everyone is suddenly up in arms saying she should never have been sacked and brings a lot to the show.

I don't think most people have a problem with her being sacked. They have a problem with her being replaced by someone like Alesha.

If someone who was actually qualified had replaced her, I don't think people would be too upset.

I totally agree.

Those who were upset by Arlene's (and one of the other judges) remarks over the JS fiasco and wanted her sacked, are probably not upset to see her go, but they are upset by the fact she is being replaced by someone who has no experience in dance (except for her routines with Matt).

A sweeping statement to say everyone on the forum was demanding Arlene should be sacked. Or that everyone has now changed their minds.

I never asked for that and I know a lot of other regular posters didnt either. I reserve my judgement until afterwards.

What happens on here is that when there is something controversial happening the hordes flock to this and other forums to stamp and scream, just to see themsleles in print maybe. Then it quietens down again and these itinerent posters go back into their holes to wait for the next drama.

I never called for Arlene's sacking either, and the whole JS thing left me completely unmoved tbh...

I DID throw things at the telly in the direction of Bruno though, and to a slightly lesser degree, Len.

Arlene happened to be my favourite judge. I wasn't demanding her head then, and regardless of whether her being contracted this year or not is fair, I think the BBC's refusal to let her know what was going on is little short of disgusting.

Everyone is entitled to express their opinion whatever the post count elizabethjo.

I for one was very critical of Arlene and I am pleased to see her go.

Not sure what you mean elizabethjo with that pithy comment...

Anyway. Ill make one example as a point. Vanessa Feltz (Okay maybe not the most wonderful point as she seems to U-turn on things all-the time and just seems to be out for a moan always) writing in the Express during SCD how Arlene should be sacked for being so cruel to JS

Then recently writing in the column how Arlene shouldnt have been sacked as she brings so much to the show.

EDIT: Oh sorry I get it now. Yes I appear every so often to put a 2pence in but meh. Whatever. XD

Very true everyone is entitled to express an opinion, but it was not really an opinion more of an observation which was untrue in the main, just another thread started along with the 1001 others on the same theme.

The reference to the JS incident is also interesting as the op never bothered to put in his fourpennorth on this forum then whatever his opinion of it.

I think the title of this thread says it all - just a huge sweeping statement worthy of tabloid newspaper.

I agree. I'm not a fan of Arlene, but I was annoyed by the manner of her sacking and replacement, rather than the fact that she was sacked.

People need to remember Arlene WAS NOT SACKED!! She is a freelance, as are all people involved in the show, including some of the technical people. Most BBC Journos are freelance and the newsreaders. Its how the industry works. It also means the BBC has no legal or moral compunction to renew peoples contracts.

I worked as a freelance myself, although in a totally different field.

I can think Arlene was out of line and still think it sucks that's she's been replaced by someone with less experience than herself and it was done in an very underhand manner. You can't judge everyone by Vanessa Feltz (if you did you'd feel compelled to go postal).

Uh I think you'll find I did post about the JS fiasco, a minor post which was unfortunatly partly guided by incorrect infomation. I did have a lot of other thoughts but most of those thoughts I pretty much put down to as 'Its already been said'

I wasnt meaning to make a sweeping statement Bad choice of wording. Im not some person whos just come on to try and flame the forum users and im sorry if it came across that way.
