Another ITV red button cock up
White-Knight
28-07-2009
Anyone checking the epg for ITV2 tonight will have been shocked (pleasantly) to see that Spain: Paradise Lost was in HD on the red button.

Of course ITV 2 doesn't have a red button service so it was in fact in SD.

However, another cock up for ITV in their programming of programme information.

How hard can it be when you only HD on one channel?

yes, i checked a couple of times, but the red button never did anything.

my wife enjoyed Coast in HD though.

I watched Coast in HD but was disappointed by the quality of the Cornish Episode. It missed out some of the most important towns - Newquay and Padstow, surfing (these weren't in the previous Cornish episode it was St. Ives) and most of all, picture wise, it looked as if the colours had been desaturated - they were very flat for HD.

Also, some pictures looked very blurry for HD. It was HD sharp in places but in others it looked just like SD.

Someone needs to have a look at Coast production and see what they're doing in the back rooms. After all the picture on Oceans is generally very good on BBC HD and South Pacific was excellent. Saturation on both is excellent with vivid colours so why was Coast so poor on anything other than the graphics?

I think you also need to bear in mind the subject matter. Our coastline is not as vivid and colourful as the south pacific.

No thats true, but HD still nevertheless produces punchy colours in the UK, I shoot HD myself.

I'm glad it wasn't just me who thought that!
