I've never subscribed to Sky but for several years I rented DVD's instead.

For less than the cost of the most basic Sky subscription I could watch exactly the things I wanted to watch (a mixture of classic series and films) when I wanted to watch them. And there were no adverts which was a welcome bonus.

More troll fodder from another thread:

So why mention Sky and DVDs?

I was making a legitimate post replying to a comment about Sky and DVD's.

I was not trying to promote either Sky or a DVD sales/rental company in the way Nigel tries to promote Sky at every opportunity.

I do like the way you are stalking my posts, though.

Don't big yourself up more than you already have. I'm just trying to find the sensible posts about the freesat+ service and related equipment, but you keep getting in the way.

But it shows that at least I read the threads and not just scan them as you claimed you do.

Perhaps I should add

Why does a simple question about getting more channels turn into this row?
Can't people realise that as long as you know the whole true picture you have the choice to pay or not to pay just as you have the choice to buy Freesat or a non platform based FTA receiver.

Clue: Don't go searching multiple threads just so that you can get a chance to have a go at someone with whom you've previously had arguments. That way threads won't get cluttered up with the irrelevances with which you can't seem to cope.

Why? you've obviously got you panties in a bunch and are not in the least amused. Which makes it all the more amusing from my POV.

And, as you claim to be reading this thread "just trying to find the sensible posts about the freesat+ service", perhaps you'd like to let us know exactly what it is you were hoping to find out about paying for extra services (although people may well tell you that that's actually off topic for what you claim to be looking for ).

Someone may well be able to PM you the information for which you are looking.
SWIZZ?

People complain about Microsoft but if they used their monopoly to act like Sky and charge £800 for a basic package with one of six mixes: Word processing, Spreadsheet, Business graphics, Development, Email and Web or £810 for two mixes, £830 for three, etc, the EU would be down on them like a ton of bricks.

I'd have no objection to paying a fee per channel as long as I could buy the channels I wanted and not be forced to buy them in packages.

Ultimately I hope that we will move from a package based payment system via a channel based system to a programme based one where people can buy the programmes that they actually want to watch, when they want to watch them.”

I agree with tern's implication, that monopolies should be disbanded!
However monopolistic profiteering from TV channels is only the tip of the iceberg.
Murdoch's case is far worse than any other.
His empire controls a large fraction of the UK media.
They have repeatedly influenced the outcome of General Elections.
His empire's existence is an unprecedented attack on UK democracy.
I advocate that only UK taxpayers be allowed to run or own shares in UK media.
Sky should be auctioned off in a "fire sale".

Freesat is doing monthly research, asking people what they watch for a week. They just sent out a questionnaire about sports and/or movie subscription, showing the sky packages with some prices and if you are willing or not to pay such fees for it. So it might be on the horizon after all... (even though I just want some extra (free) HD channels)

Out of interest, how did you receive the questionnaire?

All I did was completing the invite for research, a leaflet which was included in my Humax Foxsat-HDR box. (I bought mine around Christmas/New Year)
