I think what keeps US BB so fresh is the fact that the housemates are there for a purpose. They want to do well on the show so they can win the money, and then do some interviews, and then go back home to their normal lives.

Our housemates go in and treat it like a waiting game for a magazine deal or three page spread in Nuts. It means nothing to them anymore. In the older UK series, they actually gave a shit, and wanted to have a great experience.
I think no-one has quit BB USA for reasons other than death in a family, which is understandable. Some others have been removed (Justin, BB2) or forced to quit (Scott, BB4).

We've had 2 walkers and 1 jumper this year in BB UK, and only 1 in the enitre 8 series of BB Australia.

Plus the money is great in the USA.

BBUK is successful because of the interactivity. The public controls who leaves.
Interactvity is clearly not enough anymore though, is it. The "public vote" is not a fresh or original concept given that it is now nine years since BBUK launched.

Also, characters and storylines have been re-hashed so many times over the last ten series that the show has just become a tired and predictable cliche that only the die-hard fanbase will watch.

I would love BBUK to adopt the American format for one season at least - How could it not match at least the c.2mill who are tuning for BB10?

I think you'll find the housemates would be much more duplicitous and not truly themselves if the UK format was tweaked.
The housemates aren't truly themselves anyway. They used to say that the longest a housemate could go for before the mask slips is about 3 days, but after years of watching what is basically the same format they know what to do in order to achieve notoriety. They know making a grand entrance will get them/used to get them attention in tabloid newspapers, they know being a total arse in the diary room every day will get them on the highlights show, etc etc.

Nikki from BB7 is a prime example. No one can be like that in real life. She turned the volume of her actual personality up by about five notches for seven weeks or however long that cretinous character was in there for.

Exactly. It's been dying a slow death since about BB7, and more fool the production team for not doing something major to shake the format up since then. Essentially it hasn't changed since day 1 of series 1. Changes made for BB5 might have freshened things up, but it was just a new coat of paint rather than a total overhaul.

Then again I get the feeling that Channel 4 are trying to kill the show slowly, making it look like it was on its way out anyway. People always say 'It's run its course', well why should anything 'run its course'? If it's kept fresh and interesting people will always come back. It captured the imagination of the public for at least six years so totally renew it and they will come back.

As long as it's still a load of people in a house, under continuous observation, where one or more people is removed every week or every two weeks, then it's Big Brother.

My hate for what BBUK has become has really come to the fore this week. I used to absolutely love our show between BB1-3 and BB5. Knowing they could change it up by stealing someone elses ideas really pisses me off. They don't have to think of anything new to do, they can be totally lazy with it and steal from BBUS. Our production team should love that, the bunch of brainless morons they've become.

They should licence the format of USBB and put on a new show in the UK, people might watch it then.

Actually one person has walked in BBUSA (Neil in BB9, he left in the first week because of family issues and was wiped pretty much from the cast-list and intro sequence).

I think BBUSA rules would work.... To a degree though. Maybe if...
HOH COMP
POV COMP
Public Vote to evict

Modifying the dates a little to fit the UK timetable, it would wind with a calender like this

First Monday: Introductions, first HOH Competition (Air live)

Monday: Previous day Recap show/POV Comp on this day/Nominations Aired

Tuesday: Previous day Recap show/POV Aired/Food Comp on this day/POV Ceremony on this day

Wednesday: Previous day Recap show/Food Comp Aired/POV Ceremony Aired/Lines Open for 2 nominees

Thursday: Previous day Recap show

Friday: Previous day Recap show/Live Eviction/Start of HOH

Saturday: Previous day Recap show/HOH Aired

Sunday: Previous day Recap show/Nominations done on this day

Gah 0_o Ive gone all cross-eyed trying to match dates together

This would work well. Here's hoping that someone at Endemol/Channel 4 reads this!!

Endamol have one shot at bringing BB UK back from the dead and I truly think that the BB US format is the way to do it........

the producers obviously love to manipulate the HL's and they would be able to do this without altering what is important in the house............. who leaves the house wouldnt be reliant on who the public thinks is good/bad such as how BB have fitted them in their panto costume............. the producers wouldnt feel the need to meddle because the game is the centre of attention and what generates the action..... therefore bea, lisa, marcus or hira..... it wouldnt matter

after all these years i'm still loving BB US and I think it would be a crying shame if our BB went down the pan without the format being tried
