The most famous of them all?

Mrs Santa and I were arguing over who the most famous Celeb is. I said Jonny Lydon's fame was world wide. Everyone, even people in the far reaches of South America, would have heard about the Sex Pistols. She said that no one outside of the UK and under the age of 40 would know who Jonny Lydon is and that the most famous person was probably Jordan because she appears on lots of magazine covers.

So who do you think is the most famous celeb?

Seeing the Paris Hilton Jordan thread, I hardly think she is know in the USA.

It's John.

In the USA, Jordan is known as plain Katie Price. She doesn't have the reputation that she does here but there are many US fansites dedicated to her. Even if her name isn't recognised worldwide, her appearance certainly would be so I'm inclined to say that she is the most famous. If you asked this question in the street without the I'm A Celebrity... context, I would imagine that Jordan would be the most instantly recognised name whereas many people might have to be told who John Lydon is.

Peter Andre wouldn't have been the most famous even when he was at his peak

I guess it depends on your definition of 'famous'.

Jordan is in the British press every other day but she hasn't done anything more than flash her chest. John changed the landscape of popular music but he hasn't been mentioned much by the tabloid press for twenty-five years.

Gary, ask the same question and substitute 'Lydon' for 'Rotten' and I think most people will know who he is.

In all honesty, I still dont't know who Peter Andrew is! I have some idea that he might have sung a song or appeared topless. Anyway, Peter Andre's fame is not in question here. He does not have any. Same for Lord Brocolli-top, and the assorted footballers wives.

Nope, Jonny Lydon has my vote. With maybe Jordan in close behind. Oo'er.

No-one seems to remember LeftField / Lydon collaboration "Open Up" What a great song!

I think people of a certain age would know who Lydon/Rotten is whereas Jordan's name is known across all age groups. On ITV2 today, Kerry was telling one of the others that she didn't really know who John Lydon was but she obviously knew Jordan. Lydon's musical legacy, as great as it is, is irrelevant. The question is who is most famous, which in my opinion equates to most well known, and that has to be Jordan.

Technically the other way around is much more efficient. John thinks rumours about the reach of his private parts are wildly exaggerated.

I remember it and still play it regularly.

Who have you been asking?

@matt.b & JonDoe

I read

and then

and fell off my chair!

Depends what type of fame.

At this moment Jordan gets more media coverage, but in ten years time she will be forgotten but Jonny Rotten will be remembered. He has enduring and international fame, she has temporary tabloid fame.

It may well be the case that Jordan will be forgotten in 10 years and Rotten will be remembered but it isn't 2014 yet so Jordan is still a household name. Fame and Talent are not necessarily mutual. Lydon fans shouldn't take it as an insult if Jordan is more well known - it doesn't make her better than Lydon it just means she is a more well known name. It doesn't matter what she has done to get that fame, we all still know who she is...

Could it be Diane Modahl? International athlete falsely accused of using drugs - or was that just a British story?

Not at all. In this country at least you're absolutely right.

Don't they usually show the Australian film crew the celeb's pictures and ask them if they know who they are? Have they done that yet?

I'm not a fan of John Lydon, I just think he's more famous than Jordan. A lot of people who don't read the tabloids wouldn't have a clue about Jordan. Everyone's heard of Jonny Rotten.

It's not just tabloids who talk about Jordan though. If she was, then I agree with you - she would not be as well known. Go into any newsagents and you will see her on at least one magazine cover, she is on numerous TV channels and is talked about by many others. Even the broadsheet press talk about her now and again (there was a picture of her in the Guardian just last weekend). She is everywhere, and you could ask a 10 year old boy or an 80 year old granny who Jordan is and they would know. I wouldn't bet on them knowing who John Lydon is (pre-I'm A Celebrity... anyway).

What if you said to people that the lead singer of the Sex Pistols was on "I'm a celebrity"? My bet is that most people would have heard of the Sex Pistols and that this recognition would be found pretty much everywhere (even in France, Germany and the rest of Europe). I might be wrong, but Jordan seems to be known only in English speaking countries.

Another hilarious translation courtesy of Google language tools:

Monday starts the British version of "I is a star - gets me here raus! (?)" and provides already in the apron for plentifully sensation. Also with it: World-wide the XXL Luder Katie Price acting under the artist name "Jordan".

As no other asterisk (I'm guessing 'star') creates it Katie Price the correct snapshot of a willing Paparazzi to provoke again and again and thus on the title pages of the Gazetten and in some hot dreams of the male population land.

If it was recently the somewhat unorthodox employment of a Handys, then new pictures show that also a Wodka bottle can quite do to stimulating employment.

If Katie must move starting from Monday in the stifling heat of the Australian jungle, their fans will wait strained for the announced generousnesses. Because in the apron it promised several times: "I show up completely naked!"

With this statement England Luder number unity of the Reality Show might give fantastic ratingses. And that, although it itself already around the third relay of "I'm A celebrity - GET ME OUt OF Here!" acts.

In Germany meanwhile for the second relay of the jungle Posse as hochkaraetige nerve saws announced themselves as Juergen Drews (place 6 under the 100 nervigsten Germans) and franc Zander - we may look forward to their jungle examinations.

Or would we be then harm glad?

Well she's never featured in any of the hot dreams of this member of the male population land.

Thanks matt.
