youtube videos blocked

Hi

Just wondered if anybody else who have uploaded Strictly videos to youtube have had them blocked.
I have just had a number blocked under BBC Worldwide copyright issues, although there are plenty of others still up elsewhere.
Are the BBC producing DVD's or something, in which case there is a possible reason, but some have been on youtube for a couple of years, so it seems strange they blocked them now. The ones they blocked seem pretty random, its not as if they picked on a specific type.
I would have thought it helped to advertise the programme if the clips are not available on DVD.
Obviously I won't bother anymore if this is their policy.

They started blocking videos last series and brought out a DVD. It caused outrage on the forum and people were really upset, especially those who'd spent hours uploading videos.

From a purely practical perspective:

The trouble is that the material IS under copyright (most importantly the music, but also the whole show), so although it might be annoying/frustrating/upsetting for those who have spent plenty of their own time uploading, the broadcasters and YouTube have to start taking a stance (otherwise they will lay themselves, YouTube and Google (who own YouTube) open to some potentially expensive litigation in court.

As for video clips that have been there for a few years, considering the sheer number of clips on YT, and the range and diversity of clips that come up via a search, I guess that it would take a rather large effort to fine & take down all such content in one go.

I never worry about them removing clips.
If I'm interested in anything that's recent I find it and permanently download it to my hard drive using Quivic which was cheap to purchase (several years ago) and extremely reliable. I'm mostly interested in vintage modern jazz performances and there's hundreds on YouTube which have been on for years.

It takes time for any recording to be spotted and removed.

As someone said there seems to be no logic and the removal appears to be random. Maybe it's because those wishing to remove "stuff" can't find it or it's been uploaded after their search.
Seems rather petty as you could record the whole show and it could help sales of the music as it has done with the Chris Brown recording on the "Wedding Dance" clip.

But then "it's yer BBC."

Marty Pellow doesn't seem to be bothered about this. It's been on, (uploaded by different people) for at least two years,

I accept that the copyright law does cover these clips that they have blocked, and they do have the right to do it.
It's just it seems very random as to what they block, and what they leave, and whilst I agree it would be an effort to find them all, the fact they have blocked quite a few of mine, and not all is puzzling as it can't exactly be difficult to find and block all of mine. At least i'd know where I was then!
Anyway, I won't spend time doing anymore, not really worth the hassle, not that the programme looks like being the same in any case.

Perhaps it is down to the BBC receiving specific representation/complaints about particular clips? I don't really know. But they (BBC and YT/Google) cannot openly condone the practice of fans uploading that content.

It has been quite common for few years now for content to be removed like this and it isn't just the BBC, it is ITV as well. Try finding good quality clips of a show like DOI and you will find it is just the same. Several posters on here have had whole accounts removed in the past.

There are ways around the problem e.g. you are far less likely to be caught out if you don't use the show's name or the full names of the couples, but there are no guarantees someone one see a clip and report it.

Agreed..

So download it. I think there's even some free programmes on the net that let you do it and the one I use lets you download quite a few free as a trial.

Be brave!

Find the site, download the kit, it's quite cheap and you get free upgrades (I completely lost mine with a hard drive crash a couple of weeks back but an e-mail to them and they let me download it again within an hour, fortunately I save all my music and programmes to another hard drive).
The site tells you how to download, it's as easy as copying and pasting the YouTube url.
I've sent you a pm with the address.

"Simples."

This was first put on YouTube immediately after that show, so I downloaded it.
Digressing a bit and probably repeating myself.

Dropping Nicole I consider "agism" by the BBC, I think she's 39 now, so; "over the hill" I guess for the BBC female "suits."

The choreography of this dance is in my opinion supurb.

Anyone who uses RealPlayer (even the free version) can download videos from any site including YouTube.

Just Click on Tools/Preferences/Download & Connections and then tick the box.

It's worth downloading the free version of RealPlayer just for that option imho.

Yes, the free RealPlayer is what I've got too.

I found it quite easy, and I'm useless at all that stuff

p.s .That Matt/Nicole dance was a-ma-zing.
