Possible nation state (3-3)

Clue to the lead actor:

A hundred? Why yes, German one (4,3)

It is a subtitled film, although action-based so not much talking anyway!

There are no AIs and UN is not part of it.

That helped! Actor is Tony Jaa....film therefore is Ong-Bak. Still don't really get it though....almost an anagram of Bangkok, but as there were no anagram indicators involved, I must be missing something in the solution....

Correct!
You'll kick yourself...

Possible = ON (as in, Ronaldo to Real Madrid could be possible/on)
Nation = GB (looking too far from home, maybe?)
State = AK (Alaska)

You probably reasoned this out, but for completeness:

A hundred = Ton
Why = y
yes, German = Ja
one = a

Sorry, wasn't online last night really and been busy with work / football tables and so on this morning...you're right, I worked out the actor then shamelessly looked up his films .....would never have got it otherwise tbh.....

I'll just work out a newie, won't take a sec......

Boxer - name, weight or dog
unstable = anag indicator?

he dropped = remove h e from anagr

in the last when could be the anag letters - he =
int las twh en = 11 letters

receiving = adding letters?

uppercuts = rabbit punches? or topside of beef etc?

receiving = adding letters yes, receiving is an instruction to signify this ”

Well 'Boxer unstable' made me think of Rocky , (shame Rocky Balboa is two words),
but I couldn't make it work, but then all that punching, jabs etc. (Ah Ha!)
maybe

Jabberwocky ?
it's got rocky & a jab in it.
Hmm can't quite reverse it, though.

r-ocky = boxer

jabs = uppercuts (not quite accurate as a jab is any quick short punch forward - as in not a hook)

need to account for BE W and losing S

JAB + be R (w) OCKY (s)

That came out wrong...

After a day's sundown, it's like a rock, says circular dungbeetle (1,4,4,5)

Clue: Clean Old Man

Quick full Jabberwocky explanation

Boxer = Jabber
unstable = wonky
dropped (remove) in the last (letter)
receive (add) upper (letter of) cuts

Ah, yes, never thought of 'wonky', makes all the difference

It read rather well, Well Done (dropping 'he' would have been an option, still works both ways).

Cheers DP, well solved

Can 'he' = 'n' then? Not quite with you on that bit?!

If I'd known that I'd have omitted 'in the ladt' to make it more succinct!

No. In your explanation 'he' doesn't figure at all.
I was just meaning 'Boxer unstable dropped in the last when receiving uppercuts' reads just as well.

^ ah, right, with you...

Just bump cabledude's clue to the fore to tidy things up:

After a day's sundown, it's like a rock, says circular dungbeetle (1,4,4,5)

"A hard day's night" - clue was that Wilfred Bramble - aka steptoe was in it!

Bond__ice Man is too obvious

Think Diana and Paul Burrell... (yeuch!)

Clint would call you bird-brains, you lot - or butterflies...

you should be hunting for the link - I hope this ruddy clue will be solved before next month...

link that with 007 and you'll get this clue. I shertainly think so.
Terrence Chant

Ruddy.....red
....next month = October
starred Sean Connery (007)

The Hunt For Red October hence springs to mind, but it can't be that can it? Not read the book or seen the film, but it's to do with submarines not diamonds afaik
Terrence Chant
03-09-2009
.....so that presumably was an extra hint to link us with the correct 007, Sean Connery, who starred in the film The Rock?
