Arlene Phillips 'lands GMTV judging job'

Axed Strictly Come Dancing panellist Arlene Phillips is being lined up for a new judging role on GMTV, a report has claimed.

According to the Daily Mail, Phillips will be the main expert on the morning programme's new talent search The No.1 Family, which launches in the autumn.

Presented by Jeff Brazier, The No.1 Family will see musical relatives from around the country competing for a record contract with Universal.

A GMTV source confirmed: "There are talks going on with Arlene about doing something with us in the autumn. Everyone here is very keen but it is early days."

Phillips, 66, was dropped from Strictly Come Dancing after six series last month. She will be replaced by 30-year-old popstar Alesha Dixon when the new run begins later this year.

The BBC's decision has led to a public backlash, with allegations of ageism being levelled at the broadcaster and fans threatening to boycott the show.

Phillips has already signed up to be a Strictly expert on The One Show this autumn

The best thing that happened to her was getting the axe - before all this cafuffle she was ridiculed as the blabbing female judge who lusted over the contestants.

Now she's some sort of saintly figure with her being employed left right and centre...

The only good thing about this is that is Arlene Phillips and not Fiona Phillips.

Having just read that she is considering offers and might not be on the ONE show, would be interesting to see her on Dancing on Ice as a judge and get rid of Ruthie.

Ruthie has left DoI- what a slap in the face it would be to the Beeb if Arlene was to be the new judge on DoI

That's exactly what I was thinking. ITV should be in negotiations with her right now as it could bring in more viewers, as DOI definately lacks something in comparison to Strictly.

Hadn't thought of that - I think it would be a very smart move on ITV's part to do that!!

I don't know- I mean the public opinion is very much in Arlene's favour at the moment, but the choreographer judges on DOI aren't popular, and does she know anything about skating?

ITV could end up scoring an own goal if they are perceived taking BBC cast-offs, especially if Arlene ends up being a liability.

If she did that she will be burning her boats with SCD and at the moment there is still a chance she might be asked back next time - admittedly a slim chance.

I would say the chance of being asked back would be slimmer than slim! By the next series she will be a year older - 67 - and oh dear, that would never do on the beeb, would it?

I think she should tell them - ever so politely of course - what to do with their One Show Job.

If ITV make offers, then all well and good, but even if they don't, Arlene is unlikely to be unemployed, anymore than she was before she was a strictly judge.

Does anyone know what Arlene be be judging in her new show?

If the BBC are running true to form it will probable be some discipline she knows nothing about!

The show they want her to be a judge on was reported as GMTV's new show to find britains top musical family, so i would expect she will be judging singers ,
A choreographer judging singers, whatever next

Interesting! After all, Ruthie knew nothing about skating and was judging it from a performance point of view. However, it would be difficult for Arlene to judge the skaters from a choreographic point of view as I believe Chris and Jane do all the choreography and God forbid that anyone should criticise that...

Same as a singer judging dancers I would think

My point exactly

So it seems you see the point that Aleeesha is not equipped to judge dancers then?

It might be that Arlene has a choreographic role in her new job, who knows until we know more about it. Perhaps they want her for her experience in the performing arts generally or maybe GMTV want to poke the BBC in the eye.

Are you joking?!

ITV's history is full of them poaching talent from the BBC. In any case, it already played that trick with Arlene when it hired her for Britannia High.

Arlene will do absolutely fine. If anything, she will find her profile has been raised significantly as a result of what has happened and good on her for capitalising on that - it only makes BBC management look even more stupid than they already are.

And perhaps, as the BBC have said all along, they want Alesha to judge based on her performance experience on the show, who knows until we see the show, Arlene does not have experience of the "performing arts generally" she is, as many people on here have pointed out 'A world class Choreographer", dont remember hearing her singing in the past.

I notice yelsel that you have managed to rack up 100 posts on the subject of Alesha/Arlene in a few weeks.
perhpas you should now think of taking a holiday or getting a new perspective, you are giving out the impression that you lead a very boring life and have an unhealthy one track mind.
In other words Give it a Rest

Difficult to take a holiday with an ankle in plaster... but gives me lots of time to play on my computer.. i thought this was a forum where people could express their opinions, my mistake. it seems ones opinions are only valid when you have posted 2000 + posts. I was merely pointing out the hipocritical nature of your post. If you dont like my opinions then you do not have to respond, and as there is not a lot else going on news wise on SCD the Arlene/Alesha subject is a hot topic. I am sure i will comment on other SCD subjects as and when the news comes through.

I usually find myself agreeing with you, Elizabethjo, but your comments to Yelsel seemed a little hard?

He's not the only one who has posted umpteen number of posts of the subject of "A v A" - a lot of us have.

Kaycee I dont care how many posts you make on what subject I just noticed yelsel because she has posted ONLY on this subject on each and every thread which has been created for it. Too many threads on the same subject and too many identical posts.

It is open to anyone to post on any subject not just us old timers who here for ever. The whole forum seems to have been taken over by this topic, would be nice to have a different subject for a change.
