After leaving BT Vision 2 weeks ago I just had a weird phonecall, Some guy says "We are making you a fantastic offer, BT Vision for free" For free I says, "Yes for free, you only pay for the content you want to watch and a one of fee of £90 for the box" Now call me daft, but what is the free part here, am I missing something?

My brother in law got a similar call but he was offered Vision for free with no tie in (Vision wise) when his BT b/band was up for renewal. In essence all they were doing was waiving the initial set up costs. He said he'd do it if they knocked a tenner a month off the broadband cost.

"free" services tend to rely on advertising, advertising is paid by manufacturers and service providers, manufacturers and service providers recoup the cost from their customers, their customers sign up to "free" services and see the adverts they paid for and so the cycle of freeness is complete.

Costs are not necessarily pecuniary either, they could be effort, information, time or a dozen other things which are not perceived as a monetary cost, but are costs none the less.

It's free as in there's no monthly subs to pay.
