If BT Vision are loosing money
It has been reported many times and in many places that BT are loosing money and BT Vision are loosing money and not reaching customer targets.
So, Is it not now time for BT Vision to open the network for all to use and cut a deal with other ISP's to allow this? If Canvas get the go ahead that will make it more attractive also, BT Vision with freeview HD, OD, Catch-up and Free OD and Catch-up. |

I don't think the infrastructure is in place for that. BTV will be designed to expand on growth and a sudden burst from every other ISP may not be scalable in it's current form.
BTV requires "on the fly" QoS which would require changes to ensure other ISPs would guarantee bandwidth. Canvas should allow the scalability that's needed for mass VOD in the UK. If Canvas goes ahead then whilst others can join the party - BTV will have access to a larger amount of archive content from the main UK broadcasters which "may" help bring in new customers. BTV would need to concentrate on delivering linear services (Freeview/Freesat HD) that people want and "add on services" whether it's catch up tv/sports or film packages. |

While BT vision may be directly losing money, don't underestimate it's usefulness as a Broadband customer retention tool.
If I were to migrate away from BT broadband, I'd need to buy a new PVR and go through all the aggravation of setting up all my old recordings, while also making sure I timed it right so that I'd watched all my old stuff before the vision box became bricked. That thought alone puts me (and I would imagine many others) off moving away from BT Broadband. If I were able to move, but keep my vision box, I'd most likely do so. This, I would think, is the number one reason why you will never see BT vision in it's present form open to other ISPs. |

A negative BT comment, that makes a change, Not
Still when you leave BT you'll have no reason to come here any more eh? I too would keep BTV if I could either. 1/ use a different ISP or 2/ Get a cheaper b/band deal with BT |

It can easily be done, BT get into talks with other ISP, they all agree on a line speed minimum, then BT can either sell you the set top box and you have no contract so can either pay per view or sub to a pack or loan you the box but you will be in a 12 month contract.
If they are working on Canvas and it gets the green light the box can be sold as, BT Vision with Freeview+ and Canvas. |
