That may be the case but the current Strictly professionals would be considered more well known to the general audience, not just seen as the professionals: their personality/character is an integral part of the show, for me anyway.

Have to say if the beeb keep this up they could have people switching off in droves. Change is good but not for the sake of it. If poor Karen Hardy's past it God help us all!

They better not mess with the theme tune.

That leaves Brendan, Ian and Matthew with only the two new female pros. Are the BBC going to bring in another girl or is one of the guys going to go?!”

Correct.
Although I understand that Matthew has confirmed he is returning and evidently Brendan has confirmed on his website too. So that jusst leaves Ian.... (anyone heard him confirm recently he is back?)

All three guys have said they are coming back so it's got to be an as yet unannounced third new female pro.....

Brendan, Anton and Erin have been part of all 6 series. so I wonder how safe they are if the BBC are trying to "freshen" the show.

Karen had pretty much retired, anyway, when she was given the Strictly nod... It was great to see her enthusiasm for dance return over the first couple of seasons she was on... it was then she became an arrogant spoilt brat and really started getting on my hooves....

I can see the BBC are trying to 'sex up' the show but the older pros are more experienced and that's a good thing. Young blood won't nessecarily make the show a better one.

Probably. Despite Goughy and Ramps being older than that.

I am sorry to see Karen go- she is one of my favourite pros- and was one of the shows real characters

Thanks for everything Karen- at least the true fans appreciated you

Do you know Karen then?

I understood her position at the end of the last series to be that she didn't know if she would be able to do SCD this time because of the commitments for her new dance studio, but that she was torn about it all and nothing was decided.

Are you sure you are not thinking about Camilla?

He didnt come back because he was running his own full time dance school and his wife had just had a baby, didnt have the time to commit to it. He has been back though doing the reports on the training videos for Craig ( you didnt think Craig could do that on his own did you?)

Maybe Karen wasnt axed, just moved on to something else like Camilla. It happens I guess even the pros can get tired of dancing to the BBc's tune.”

I suspect that this is the most likely scenario, although like most people I'm just guessing. It seemed that at the most Karen was only lukewarm about coming back and so maybe the BBC made her mind up for her. There's a tendency for people to believe that SCD is the be all and end all of everything, but people do have other personal and business interests.

And it should be noted that some of those people who have left Strictly have had a far more successful dancing career than some of those who stayed and so we shouldn't necessarily feel sorry for them. e.g. Paul and Hannah K. (Hannah was my favourite female pro!)

Why are they trying to ruin such a great show by changing it so drastically? It should be that awful Len Goodman, Brendan Cole and that hideous creature Anton Dubek who should be shown the door! I'm afraid I won't be watching this year.

this has left me worried that they're going to axe erin too, as it says that they may well axe some of the other older pro dancers. i would have hoped that anton's popularity would secure erin a place but who knows..

i wish they'd just accept that replacing the pros in their 30s with pros in their 20s is not going to reel in a younger audience !

Good point.

All its going to do is make the already stupid celeb age ratio look worse than maybe it is... Or are they only having celebs in their 20s this year??????????

lady pro in 20s, with celeb in 40s (is going to look bad enough)
lady pro in 20s with celeb bloke in his 50s (going to look like Huw Heffner and the Playboy girls!)
and I dont want to think of the possibility of lady pro in 20s with celeb bloke in his 60s ()

Or are we going to get funky sexy young things to go with the pros in their 20s .......... shock horror celebs in their 20s to go with the pros in their 20s..... !!!!!!!

.....or maybe John and Kristina (although K was probably slightly more "mature", in her 30's??)

Edit - oops, I've missed the point of your post, Sara

My personal feeling is that Karen has decided to call it a day in any case. She has a new dance studio and after two duds on the trot she must have weighed up realistically the chances of holding the glitterball again. But still, the family will miss her warmth and smile, sizzling Latin choreography, (not that we've seen much of it the last two series!) and her enthusiasm for dancing inspired me to take classes. As well as that she with Bill is still one of my all time favourite partnerships. You'll be missed Karen. Thanks for the memories.

I think you're probably right. And like you, I've admired Karen, especially in her partnerships with Mark and Biil.

However, if that is the case, I do think that Karen might have been wise to have made a similar announcement to the one that Camilla made i.e. to have made it clear it was her choice to move on. That would be better than have people think that it was the BBC's decision. However with all of her other interests, maybe she's not worried about how this is viewed by the media.

What I am glad to hear is she is still discussing her contract!!

Maybe we will have our fifth judge for Series 7 after all plus that would restore some of the BBC's image over SCD imho!

I'll second that (not the learning to dance bit ).

Karen was my favourite female pro and brought a breath of fresh air to SCD when she joined with all her enthusiasm and talent. I will miss her a lot and hope she does still play some role in the show.
