Existing BT Vision customer - Discount for renewing contract?
I'm near the end of my 12 month contract and i'm wondering if anyone knows if you can get a discount on BT vision when renewing the same as you can get with BB and the phoneline.
New customers can get the first 3 months half price. |

seeing as Vision is directly tied to BT Broadband then would it not be better to try and negotiate a monthly discount off that?
The b/band prices ain't too competitive, and I know my brother in law managed to get option 3 for option 1 price upon his renewal. |

Unfotunatly i clicked the link this morning. i did look into changing but i cant get cable, sky ends up too expensive to include any football, can't get tiscali and BTV has the OD aspect. |

Hmmmm, i got an email basically saying if i clicked the link i'd get £3 off per month if i continued for 12 months. I'm on option 3. i assume everyone gets this.

I'm sure there will be an opt out on the renew (7 days) plusnet offer the equivalent of Option 1 for 5.99 or Option 3 for £15.99 (if you are in an Ofcom Market 3 area) Plus net are basically BT re-branded. I don't understand your comment about the sports. It is possible to get the base Sky pack at £16.50 and then just add sky sports 1 for a tenner. BTV bronze plus ESPN is likely to be in the £24 range, and SS1 with base variety pack will likely give you more content than BTV (certainly more unique content), and there is very little in the cost. Actually if you could switch to Plus net then you could actually save money overall. ![]() the OD stuff (replay) is the only reason I stay with BTV and I'm trying to negotiate out of the contract anyway. up to you, but you do have options. |

Come off it Matterhorn you have absolutely no idea that BT will charge £24 for bronze pack with ESPN UK, you have simply plucked that figure out of thin air because it suits your argument.
I was assuming that BT would need to charge a similar amount. Today it seems that this is not true and BT are giving ESPN free to any package customer.... and serious props to them for doing it. so whilst I was wrong and happy to admit it.. the number was not plucked from thin air.

I suppose they are sending these emails to people and hope that like yourself, they will just click on the link and not think about it. |

£3? good grief, that is nothing, best to carry on as normal, at least then you still got the option of changing ISp without a contract.

Re-contracted with 3 months half price.
Contract runs for 12months. I think after paperless billing discounts (and looking at my online bill just now), it'll be roughly £11.80 a month. Gives, TV Pack, Replay, Picturebox, Sports + ESPN. Nae bad.

the problem is that BT BB is tied into vision. So if you want vision you've really no choice to accept their deal.
I had this thing about having everything in thew same basket and was not fond of the idea, went to BT broadband anywhere and now I realise why i didn't like the idea. Bad idea I think putting everything in one basket. |

That is the problem, the same with Sky but the other way around, if you want Sky broadband you got to have Sky t.v.

yeah, I agree. It annoys the hell out of me that I need electric and an aerial in order to watch Freeview
Anyway you don't pay Bt for your electric and you don't pay for your aerial per month either. Some of these so called all in one packages are not always the best deal. Of cause companies can tie you in and a you are stuck. If for instance you are with Sky and decide that you had enough of their T.V service, if you have broadband and Sky Talk you have to go though the hassle of finding another provider. The main reason why I now stay with my gas/electric provider, because it is too much hassle to change. Too many long contracts, maybe contracts longer than 12 months should be made illegal. |

I think you are getting the wrong end of the stick, you seem to getting the pointed end.

but isnt that how companies keep prices relatively low, tie people into contracts, then they have a guaranteed revenue stream, meaning they can keep costs down, if you had people choppping and changing on a daily basis, there is no way of knowing how much revenue you could generate, so prices would be higher to compensate, cant have it both ways i am afraid
Plus people should enter contracts with thier eyes open. If they didnt want an 18 month contract or a bundle that wasnt flexible then they shouldn't have signed up - simple as that. No need for nanny state intervention here |

I can also understand BT having a contract on the Broadband if they supply the equipment, not that their Equipment is much cop, the same with BT Vision and sky. But if people supply the equipment like routers then a long contract is not needed and to say that it is a way of keeping prices low is not true, BT is prices are not low. I was on a ISp that had no contract and had lower prices and to be honest a better service. |

No need for nanny state intervention here That is the problem, if you have Gas and electric you are pretty sure you are going to get Gas and electric, the problem with Broadband and with Bt vision is that both services are flaky and what may look like a good deal at the start ends up not so good because the provider can't offer you the service you had at the start. I won't do it again, |

I did enter the contract with my eyes open, I knew it was 18 months, but I also did not expect the quality of the service to go down just after 12 months.

I had power cut a couple of weeks ago but I cant remember the last time I had a broadband outage
Broadband wise I get a lot of disconections and more so since the exchange was down graded and everytime it reconects the sync rates gets lower, the way it is going I will be back to the speeds when I first had broadband 500Kbits. |
