This is a slightly old item of news, but I have just come across it, so I thought I'd post it....

(excerpt)

'A chocolate favourite is making a comeback after 21 years.

Confectionery giant Mars is bringing Treets out of retirement as part of the growing credit crunch trend for bringing back classic brands.

The chocolate peanut sweets - first launched in 1976 - will reappear in Sainsbury's at the end of the month.'

Woohoo! The OH and I were just reminiscing how we used to like Treets!

It's a pity, ayrshireman, that the only Sainsburys is in Saltcoats - not too far for me I suppose...

Yeah, they've started the foundation work already...

And they've submitted planning permission for a store in Irvine (on the site of the old Wilson's factory). I'm hoping it's approved cause I like Sainsbury's and there is a real lack of them in this area...

We've got a brand new store opening in Sainsbury's on 12th August in High Wycombe it looks really huge and apparently is going to be one of their flagship stores. I bought some treets the other day they taste ok but the peanuts seem really small

I loved peanut Treets when I was a little girl. Bring back Galaxy counters as well and I'll be a very happy bunny!

Mmm, me too!!! Galaxy Counters were my absolute favourite - I long to find a packet of Revels filled only with Counters. I think I was drawn to the giraffe on the packet as well, no idea why though...

I'm guessing it was because of Victor the giraffe who died after doing the splits - I remember writing about it in my news homework when I was 5-years old.

We got a bag in Sainsbury's at the weekend and finished them between us in one sitting... they were just too yummy...

I agree, here's hoping the toffee ones follow now.

I was sure that treets were much older than that! did they originally belong to a different company? (perhaps Mackintosh or Rowntree?)

I think so. Was it the chocolate covered thin toffee bar? A bit like a "freddo"

Aren't Chomps still on the shelves? I'm sure I bought one fairly recently!

If I remember correctly the slogan for Treets was.

'The chocolate that melts in your mouth and not in your hand' ?

I don't remember it, but a few friends a couple of years older have said it was the treets slogan first, but when they disappeared, minstrels started using it...
