Darcy Bussell and a growing sense of dread

I've just read the news about Darcy Bussell (late as ever...)

I nothing against her - I think she's great. I just can't help thinking that asking Darcy Bussell to be a regular commentator on SCD is a little bit like inviting Jayne Torvill to comment on the men's downhill....

These changes are coming a bit too quickly, and a bit too far from the leftfield for my liking. Yup, I'm over 50. Anyone else experiencing a growing sense of concern?

Hi David,

I'm still upset they've got rid of an older woman from the show and the fact that Darcey is a dancer doesn't help much.

I understand - though I could be wrong - that Darcey is only going to be a 'stand-in' judge for when Alesha goes off to do her already arranged concerts.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo.......

I love Darcey as a ballerina, but show would not be the same without Craig.

I've always thought Craig & Bruno were like 2 Pantomime Dames.

So much for leaving GB to go and live in Australia then. I thought she was happily settled over there in Sydney and bringing up her 2 daughters? I guess the lure to come back was too great.

Doesn't make much sense. It looks as if they have had the idea that a "neutral" "expert" well known judge coming in at the end might help produce a credible SF and Final and winner. The idea may be there could be no accusations of bias or repetition of old views - just objective comment that people would listen too.

I can't see that working at all. You could have 1001 neutral experts on there telling the voters that Matt was as dull as dishwater and far weaker than Emma and Tom's dancing was poor relative to anyone elses in the last 3 and I don't think it would change the result one iota. If anything all you do is get the poor girl to help create a fiction that whoever won deserved to win or she makes the result look even sillier by pointing out that the winner shouldn't have won.

My worry David is that SCD is going down the X Factor route. One of the key aspects about SCD which has made it work, to my mind, is the split between professional opinion and popular vote. I am not as worried about Darcy as I am Alesha, the latter who I believe has been bought in to appeal to the masses rather than to have a view based on years of experience. I loved Alesha as a competitor but a judge - no.

Getting rid of Arlene was a big mistake I think Sofes.

I agree and while I think viewers will get over it, for me it feels slightly tainted. No matter how much they try to sex the programme up to appeal to younger viewers, it's ballroom dancing!

But it seems that it does not matter that it was not her area of expertise..... it's her age that counts on here ..

As far as Darcy's role in the show goes I'm experiencing indifference rather than a 'growing sense of dread' tbh...I didn't see the point when it was first announced and I still don't, but what do I know?

About as much as any forumites know how to run the show Stu which is a lot more than Jay Hunt does.

On another tack, the producer of series3 and 4 was Karen Smith who IMO was brilliant. Haven't seen her name since.

As for Darcey, thinking about it more and more it does seem pointless to bring in somebody on the last few weeks. Yet another voice on the panel but who hasn't been there to see first hand celebs progress or lack of since the start. Strikes me as window dressing.

Exactly! This is getting curiouser and curiouser..... I wonder if we shall find ourselves with a new 'ballet' round -that should be entertaining at least.

darcy's coming in to be a fifth judge in the last few weeks so im guessing quarter, semi and final but she is a ballet dancer not a ballroom and latin dancer so i don't see how she will really be a good judge so i am kind of dreading her and alesha being a judge instead of arlene

If so, I wish it had been in last year, watching JS and Austin attempt it would have provided light relief.

As would Brendans attempt to choreograph a 'soft rock' ballet number with knee slides

Or Darren Gough, Kenny Logan or Peter Schmeichel from previous years.

Kenny would have worn a tartan tutu.

Perhaps we should be careful here, the powers that be could be trawling this forum for mad ideas to add to the other mad ideas in play.

John Sargeant in tight tights. Urgh!

Although I think you're being too harsh on Darcey. She can do musicality and feeling. That's all Arlene used to do.And if it spares us the comments about mens' arms, I'm all for it.
