... having been with BT Vision since it started a few years back I've got fed up waiting for the 'new' software and possibility of a 'new' V2 box.

I live in a cable area and I cannot see what the downside is to moving to virgin, for nearly the same price as option 3 BB I can get phone line, tv with iplayer for free and hopefully BB that can go faster than the 2.5mb I currently get with ADSL!

I can't see the downside (assuming I can get out of my line rental contact!)

Am I missing something? I really liked BTV when it came out but it doesn't look all that great any more and it doesn't look like its going to change any time soon.

I have come from the other angle. I was with Virgin, but changed to BT because I moved to a non-cable area. I loved Virgin and highly recommend the V+ box. I would never have left Virgin unless I had to.

If I had a choice, it would be Virgin over BT every time.... but that is just my opinion

Nah, I saw that - but 'select few BT staff over next few months' probably means normal customer probably won't see it for a year at least! By then I can move back if it really is that great.

I don't quite understand this fixation with a "V2" box - what are people anticipating that it will bring? As far as I can determine its the same as the old one, but from a different manufacturer in a new style black case. Have I missed something?

No, you havent missed anything. No one knows what the vbox 2 will bring. We can only guess at the moment.

i think everyones hoping for it to do DVB-T2 which it will but much later on with an add-on module.

othes think it'll do live channels and othwrs think it can stream HD.

thise are factors controlled by bt's end.

so far the only things that the v2 box will do are:

-support dvb=t2 at some point
-come in black to tie it in with the homehub 2 look.
-support more/newer features that mediaroom has to offer.

Do you have a source for the 3rd item? Do we have proof that STB hardware is the limiting factor here? I'd be suprised if BT would launch a new box that partially disenfranchises the owners of the old box and creates demand for a new thing that people will expect to get for free...

I don't think it's reasonable for people to expect a free upgrade to the Vbox 2. I would assume that it would come with strings attached like a new contract and / or minimum subscription level.

Hopefully it will be more reliable and everything will work as it should from the start and not use the customers for testing it.

It seems like we the public are used a lot these days for testing products, we just not told about it.

It better be to be more environmentally friendly in terms of how much power it consumes.

Yea, it takes a bit of power, I can see why it is switched off at the plug at my friends house when she is not using it.
