Ever since the article on Watchdog about the Actifrys catching fire I never left mine unattended - bloody good job too as it caught fire last night

Trouble is i've had it for about 18 months, so I guess I wont stand a chance of a refund.

Just be warned you Actifriers out there

You should certainly get a refund as this is a known problem! As far as I know it's not fit for purpose if it catches fire after 18 months. I'd take it back and they'll probably replace it or refund. If they won't inform them you are going to instigate proceedings in the small claims court. I guarantee you'll win. You should know all this, aren't you a Mrs Plod?

Edit; I'm sure I read that under EU Law all electrical goods are now supposed to be covered for 2 years?

What he said! If it caught fire you should definitely have some sort of claim.

I was a BIG fan of the Actifry but mine started to get a bit dodgy a year ago so I retired it.

I was going to buy one of them, but after having some stuff cooked in one I decided against it. I thought it would have been good for some fried chips without all the oil, but I was not imkpressed.

I was less impressed when I saw the problems people are having with them, a expensive gadget that don't live up to what it is suppose to do.

Me too

Last night I did lamb chops and chips in it, tomorrow for lunch is my corned beef hash. I use it at least three times a week.

OOOPS that was tempting fate - ours started smouldering tonight ! It is 13 months old so have just emailed Tefal, who sent a spare part whilst it was still under guarantee when the catches on the lid broke.

That's too bad! Mine is two years this November and still going strong.

Be sure to let us know what Tefal say.

Looking forward to your CDWM week

Tefal basically say tough luck ! Gave me 3 options :

1. Take it back to retailer ( impossible as Amazon ).
2. Have it repaired for a charge by them ( not likely ).
3. Get 30% off a new one.

All not acceptable, will be onto them quoting the "not fit for purpose" & "not of merchandisable quality" lines tomorrow.

Re: CDWM. You and everyone who knows me, and people who know them and their friends...... A local newspaper was after an interview today. I just want it to be over .

Tefal used to be so good at customer service, what's happened I wonder?

I don't think it'll ever be over as far as CDWM and you are concerned. Just think of all those endless repeats on More4
