Finding alternative satellites

Other people have talked about finding channels on satellites adjacent to 28.2E, but on my Foxsat HDR when I go to manual tune, the first two options, Tuner and Satellite are greyed-out and set to "Tuner 1 (Fixed)" and "freesat 28.2E" respectively.

This is the case whether the STB mode is set to freesat or Non-freesat. I have a good quality signal on both feeds.

Unless you have a motorised dish or one of the inputs is connected to another dish pointing at a different satellite then you won't be able to find anything else. You should be able to tune in to the fta channels that are on 28.2 that are not part of the Freesat group. e.g. 12207 V, 27500, 2/3 will get you four versions of Sky News. Most of the time they are identical but at some point during the evening there is an Irish version of the news for 30 minutes or so.

OK thanks. It's just that I thought I'd read somewhere else on these forums that there was another satellite close to 28.2E that it was possible to see with the same, single dish.

there is it's called Eurobird 1 and it's at 28.5 E but because they are relatively so close they are picked up at the same time by your single dish. They appear as a single satellite effectively

The beamwidth of the normal "satellite dish" takes in the several Astra satellites at 28.2E and Eurobird 1 at 28.5E. It does not, in practice, matter which satellite a channel is on out of these (in the UK!!!!)

Thanks for the info. So is it the same for everybody that the first two options are greyed-out on the Foxsat HDR?

For most users this will be the case. However users can adjust the 'antenna settings' within the 'hidden menu' but this is only worth looking into for those who have equipment such as motorised dishes.
