Chance to Audition for Next Big Brother Show

Chance to Audition for Next Big Brother Show

Hit reality show Big Brother is preparing to stage open auditions for the first time in an attempt to find its next set of housemates.

Would-be participants are being invited to turn up to the auditions to convince the show’s producers that they should star in the fifth series.

Producers of the Channel 4 show, who usually select contestants from videotape submissions, are asking for couples as well as individuals to apply.

A spokeswoman for the show, which last year saw Orkney fisherman Cameron Stout crowned winner, said: “Open auditions will allow those without access to a video camera an equal chance to apply.

“Producers hope the new system will allow them to see more people and a wider cross section of the public than ever before.

“From the moment people get to the venue, the production crew will be selecting them from the queue outside, so contestants will have to impress from the moment they get there.”

“They will select which of them get to chat to the producers.”

An on-air contestant appeal was being broadcast on television this Saturday evening.

The first audition will be held in Glasgow on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

Auditions will also take place in February and March in Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, Cardiff, Birmingham, Belfast and London.

From the Channel 4 site...

'Will everyone be seen at the auditions?
The process will start as soon as you arrive but not everyone will make it inside the audition rooms. We will only be selecting those we’re interested in and who we want to see more of. This is your chance to shine so you’ll need to make sure that you stand out from the crowd and make an impact in order to be chosen from the queue and invited to attend the auditions.
However, we are holding 8 audition days in 7 different cities, so if you don’t have any luck, you are welcome to try again at another audition.

Will I need to fill out a form to get into the audition?
No, you won’t need to fill out a form in advance. Just turn up at your chosen venue and join the queue, where the audition process will begin. However, if you are successful and invited inside the auditions, you will be required to complete an application form.

If I’m at the back of the queue will I still get to audition?
Everyone who turns up will be seen by a member of the production team, as the process begins the minute you arrive. We won’t be operating on a first-come first-serve basis so you could be at the back of the queue and still be asked to come in and audition. But wherever you are in the queue, you’ll need to get yourself noticed in order to get to the next stage.

What happens, once I get past the queue and into the auditions?
Once inside the auditions, you’ll be given your chance to sell yourself and tell us why you think you should go into the Big Brother house.

You have said that couples as well as individuals are welcome. Why are you inviting couples to audition?
This year we are casting the net as wide as possible and we didn’t want rule out anyone, even if they’re in a couple. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that there will be any couples in the final Big Brother housemate line-up.

What do I need to bring to the auditions?
It might be a long day, so we’d recommend that you bring some refreshments, warm clothes and comfortable footwear....'

Any idea when the advert was on? I'm not applying this year, but am interested to see the advert. I taped "Sex in The City" for my other half last night and left the tape running, and so will probably have it somewhere.

This sounds like a nightmare scenario. They are only going to interview anyone who makes a real spectacle of themselves while queuing. So no chance of any interesting intelligent witty types who are not desperate show-offs getting in. I might have to give it a miss this year.

No I think you might be ideal-give it a go.

I'll look out for you in the queue.

I have a feeling we won't get on though.

I would think that the method of selection this time round will leave the selection process open to an unprecedented amount of scrutiny by the media. After all, if anyone can turn up it seems reasonable that members of the press will be around looking for a story.

I think the whole thing is quite exciting. I auditioned last year and said I wouldn't do it again this year as it was so much hassle with the videos and massive application forms etc, but now I'm not so sure and maybe fancy giving it another shot, although I probably wont.

What about you Pyrrhic - would you consider it again with the new format?

Anyone else thinking of going to the Glasgow auditions?

I wont apply again - but I'll start the 'Scaredy Cat Fan Club' as soon as you're in the house!

Aw thanks Py!

Still don't know if I'll actually go though. I wouldn't quite fancy going on my lonesome as I think that sort of set up might be a bit too intimidating and most of my friends work on Saturdays, so I don't think they would go with me (hell, I think if they didn't work they still wouldn't go!).

I'll decide over the next couple of weeks, but I wouldn't like it if they recognised me and didn't give me a go because I applied last year and they remember whatever it is that made them not choose me.

They're obviously going to get idiots in bright yellow suits or low tops and juggling etc (hopefully none of them getting chosen) but I'm also guessing they will be picking people that just look right.

If I was them I'd put ringers in the queue to listen to what people are saying and find out more about people, then reveal themselves and kick off people that are no good and keep the decent people.

But these queues are going to be mental in places. I also don't see many people leaving once kicked out, straight to the back of the queue again!
