Do you use an UPS with HUMAX HDR?
I wonder if anybody uses a UPS to power their HUMAX HDR and has any recommendations?
I have just started researching the topic and some first hand knowledge, suggestions and advice would be very helpful. Thanks. |

As savvy says I have one connected.. It was originally protecting my PC but that packed up so after experiencing a recording failure on the HDR due to a power failure decided to put it to use on that.
The model I have is probably the lowest end of the range with little capacity but it was cheap as it was in a PC World sale at the time http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=398645 It comes with only C13 and C14 connectors so I popped to maplins and made up a suitable conversion fly lead for standard 13 amp plugs. The original power failure occured IIRC during the T-15 mins prior to a recording start and was just a brief voltage drop (lights dipped) and since having placed the UPS on the set up haven't had such failures. However I have had a power failure during a recording and it only protected the HDR (continued to record) for about 30 mins, and as mentioned earlier being a low capacity that is to be expected. |

I live in a rural environment and get fairly frequent power outages, brown outs (voltage drops), and short off/ons. Plus the occasional lightning strike on the 'phone wires.
So when I bought my Kuro G9 I invested about £100 in a UPS to protect it and the HDR. It had to be fairly beefy to support the Kuro which from memory is 450+ watts. I've never tested the USP right down to switch-off, but it will give a couple of hours of HRD only use, or several days - weeks, maybe - of standby. I think it's a Belkin, though as I'm away from home for a few days I can't give the capacity & model number. Other than one freeze I have never experienced any of the problems that other posters report, so maybe a clean mains supply is part of the "fix". Paul. |

Chaps, thanks for the replies – sorry for the delay I have been away.
The point about the connector standards and run times is very helpful. I am considering the APC ES 700 which looks like it might last 1 hour on record and perhaps as much as 12 hrs on standby. Our power cuts are usually only for a few minutes usually during storms. It is also handy that it has standard UK 13A sockets. Many thanks for the advice and info. |

I've got an APC Back-UPS RS1500 which lasts it for hours.
That said, I only got the first week's worth of recordings for the three weeks I was just out of the country - box just decided it didn't want to record anything more. Sigh. |
