Maybe they could have a 'Beat the stylist' section. Give the celeb 50 quid for their outfit for sat and see what they come up with, whoever has the cheapest outfit gets through to the following week, no need for the dance off.

It's hayley I feel sorry for. Being sacked is one thing... but over email and through an agent is inexcusable!! It is indeed shocking... and disgusting to someone who's been loyal and worked so hard.

What the Beeb PTB have done here is inexcusable

I had forgotten I was not going to watch it this year over the Tom debacle last year (don't get me started!!) but this just seals it for me. Although I didn't rate Hayley much last year her treatment is atrocious as is that of Arlene, Karen etc.

Boo BBC!

The dancers should probably be given a minimum 2 year contract to fit themselves in to the show, enough time to become established or move on if it's not working.

I would agree with that- seems fair and reasonable

I'm not that surprised at the way Hayley was dropped as it more or less happened in the same way to Arlene and Nicole, and in the article I read today a beeb 'voice' said something like...

'We think of the pro dancers more as temporary staff than talent...It's the celebs that are important'.

Unfortunately for them most of the pro's have more personality, charm and talent than the supposed celebs...Ho hum!

Why is it that it's only women that have been replaced (dancers and judges) ??

Once upon a time the BBC had standards, they'd promote good manners and common courtesy. That is by the wayside now, is it no wonder that some people/children no longer know how to behaviour in today's society.

Could it be that the BBC are sexist as well as ageist?

I’m really shocked that they informed her by email, that’s spineless and disrespectful to someone who gave up their time to commit to their show and the BBC should be ashamed.

I’ll be totally honest, I didn’t warm to her last time, she never seemed to get anything form her partner and we never got to see enough of her dancing to form an impression of her in her own right imo.

Despite that I do feel she should have been offered another shot if she had wanted it, I think it must take a while for the newbies to settle in, it certainly takes me a while to get a feel for them as dancers and I don‘t think one series is long enough to decide if someone will work out or not.

She could have gotten a celebrity who she really clicked with this time and become a favourite of many of ours, let‘s face it the pros have all had partnerships that have worked or not, she could‘ve had a vivacious character this time that might have brought her alive to us a bit more. I just think it’s very unfair, and whilst I accept that Showbiz is a cruel mistress, I still think the way she’s been treated is out of order, she deserved the curtsey of a phone call at the very least.

The BBC seem to be treating strictly badly overall, makes you wonder what they’re playing at when it’s such a popular show. For me they’re trying to fix what isn’t broken with sacking Arlene etc. and treating dancers badly, even ’former’ dancers, will only allow a rot set in and potentially fester. No dancers = no show, therefore common sense says to me treat them well and with curtsey, sadly the people who call the shots don’t always seem to possess any common sense.

I don't think Hayley deserved a second chance. It's not because of Mark. It's because she's simply not a very good dancer. Her latin was almost as bad as Anton and Erin's (why they're still there baffles me) but unlike them her ballroom doesn't have much spark either.

Edit: I meant to say, however, this is a terrible way to sack/not renew someone

Sorry, but I don't understand what all the furore is about. Hayley has an agent who dealt with the BBC on her behalf and her agent told her she hadn't got a contract this year. What on earth is so shocking about that? Isn't that what agents are for?

Nicole was dealt with more harshly imho, having been on SCD 2 years in a row and only finding out she had been dropped for Series 5 when other pros (including her dancing partner Matthew Cutler) told her they had already signed their contracts.

I think because certain pros have now been with SCD for several series in a row plus no one was dropped after series 4, people on here forget how many changes to the pro line up there has been over the six series.

In case you don't believe me the pro line ups have been (new pros are in bold) -

SERIES 1 (8 couples) - Anton Du Beke, Brendan Cole, Paul Killick, John Byrnes, Camilla Dallerup, Erin Boag, Hanna Karttunen & Kylie Jones

SERIES 2 (10 couples) - Anton Du Beke, Brendan Cole, Paul Killick, Darren Bennett, Ian Waite, Camilla Dallerup, Erin Boag, Hazel Newberry, Lilia Kopylova & Nicole Cutler

SERIES 3 (12 couples) - Anton Du Beke, Brendan Cole, Darren Bennett, Ian Waite, Matthew Cutler, Andrew Cuerden, Camilla Dallerup, Erin Boag, Lilia Kopylova, Hanna Haarala, Izabela Hannah & Karen Hardy

SERIES 4 (14 couples) - Anton Du Beke, Brendan Cole, Darren Bennett, Ian Waite, Matthew Cutler, Vincent Simone, James Jordan, Camilla Dallerup, Erin Boag, Lilia Kopylova, Karen Hardy, Nicole Cutler, Flavia Cacace & Ola Jordan

SERIES 5 (14 couples) - Anton Du Beke, Brendan Cole, Darren Bennett, Ian Waite, Matthew Cutler, Vincent Simone, James Jordan, Camilla Dallerup, Erin Boag, Lilia Kopylova, Karen Hardy, Flavia Cacace, Ola Jordan & Nicole Cutler

SERIES 6 (16 couples) - Anton Du Beke, Brendan Cole, Darren Bennett, Ian Waite, Matthew Cutler, Vincent Simone, James Jordan, Brian Fortuna, Camilla Dallerup, Erin Boag, Lilia Kopylova, Karen Hardy, Flavia Cacace, Ola Jordan, Hayley Holt & Kristina Rihanoff

Buddy. Although I agree with a lot of what you're saying, I do want to point out that past changes in the line up haven't always resulted from dancers being dropped. In many cases the pros actually made the decision to move on.

From the sounds of it, most of the pros who've left this year made the decision to move on themselves as well.

I can't see the fuss over it being in an e-mail(!!!!!!!!!) either. Maybe it's because I'm from an (evil, shallow, rude) younger generation, but I wouldn't see not having my contract renewed by e-mail as any worse than it being done so by phone. If anything I'd prefer the former, because I wouldn't have to resist the urge to swear very very loudly.

I remember when Andrew and Hanna were dropped, they weren't told until really near to the start of the new series. Probably the BBC kept them hanging until they had secured James and Ola

To be honest Hayley must have had an inkling she might not be invited back.

I know it was John Byrne's decision not to return, but I wasn't aware that anyone else had made a similar decision. Certainly you are in a position to know the actual situation with your knowledge of the dance world.

Buddy, I don't have special insider knowledge of the danceworld . (I just go to regular lessons like many people on here. ) I just understood that Paul K and Hanna K returned to competitive dancing. And as you say John Byrnes decided not to return.
