Yes i know the dz260 is better but they are like rocking horse poo,

Any way i know i cant connect it straight to my PS3 but if my Sony Bravia TV is connected to it and my PS3 is connected to the TV will i at not not least get pro logic? I also have a Sky HD box so will i get pro logic with that?

And i get only 5.1 through actual sony dvd player dont i?

Briefly looking at the specs the 280 only has a pair of audio inputs on the front (phonos), so if your TV has a set of audio outputs you will be able to connect the two together, this should give you DPL from Sky/PS3.

Personally I'd go for an entry model amp and a set of speakers, you already have a DVD player in the PS3, this way you will get DD5.1 from Sky and DD5.1/DTS from the PS3.

This would be a much better way to go, unless you have a collection of R1 dvd's which will not play on the PS3, but then you can pick up a pretty cheap player from numerous places which will already be region modded or can be from a remote hack.

The amps below are under £200

You can even pick up an amp that delivers HD audio from Bluray for £229.

Add some speakers and you'll be up and running in no time - money much better spent IMO.

Speaker packages start from £80....

Cheers Deacon,

Will deffo go down that route.

That first Yamaha seperate has only 2 hdmi connections. Would i not need 3 to include my tv???? Or is it just 1 for the sky hd box and the other for ps3?

It has x2 HDMI inputs and x1 output.

If you want the amp to switch video sources connections would be....

Sky/PS3 HDMI -> Amp HDMI
Amp HDMI -> TV HDMI

Sky/PS3 Optical -> Amp Optical

If you just want the amp to provide the audio only the optical connections are needed.

Sorry for being thick but the 2 hdmi inputs would be from the ps3 and sky hd, and the output hdmi to the tv?

Then i'd need 2 opitical cables for the ps3 and sky hd box yes?

Went to ETS on saturday and they showed me the Yamaha RX-V365. It sounded pretty good for an entry level system.

But they did say that i wouldnt need any optical cables because the hdmi cables will carry the 5.1 surround, so all i need are 3 hdmi cables. I've read elsewhere that i do need optical cables for this system to carry 5.1

So do i or dont i need opticals?

You will need optical cables as the 365 does not carry audio over HDMI - it just switches the video.
