Back on topic.... some interesting ITV HD related news,,,,,

http://blog.wotsat.com/page/whatsat?...l_relaunch_for

Terran
This appears to say that the Freeview HD channel will replace the Freesat offering.
The new channel will also replace the occasional ITV HD feeds supplied through Freesat, although ITV has yet to announce a carriage deal with Sky or Virgin Media.
The joinfreesat site says :-
The channel has been confirmed as also being available on the Freesat platform, though no agreement is yet in place for Sky or Virgin Media.
Or is it just bad/confusing wording on wotsat's part?

Rgds.

Thank God, it's about time they wised up and made it a full time channel. The one or two shows a week was embarrasing and a complete waste of bandwidth. Maybe now that they will be creating a seperate stream they can show films in the correct aspect ratio, something they said they couldn't do due to ITV HD basically outputting the HD stuff and ITV 1 was copying their feed, downconverting it and broadcasting it on ITV 1. At least now they should be able to have it as 2 seperate feeds so one doesn't affect the other.

The best way of looking at it is that ITV are launching a HD channel called ITV1 HD which will simulcast ITV1 and offer native HD programmes where possible.

Freeview comes in to this as ITV are using this as the best way to market the channel, but have said that this channel will also be on Freesat in replacement of the current red button service.

Whether the HD content will increase much more than it is at present for a few years, who knows, but just having as simulcast is a great step forward in my opinion, and that of 94% of voters

It was nine years ago and I was only there a few weeks. It wouldn't be fair for me to comment on them personally. I will say that she was both very short and really quite pretty.

Sorry silly question, angry is not the word I really meant but anyway...yes very pretty that's for sure

Yes the daft red button nonsense has to end sometime.. Don't forget though all HD via freeview will be only 720p

Good news!

Most people will see little or no difference in spatial resolution between that and 1080i... and the temporal resolution should be better. Good news for sports and action movie fans.

I wish Sky and the BBC would switch to 720p.

Does this service work through STV? Thought it didn't

We are in the very south of Scotland - it did work from the red button on 103 - we had just not realised how little there was in HD. I forget what we watched but the lip sink was so bad we turned back to normal ITV.

Are there lip sync problems on BBC HD as well? We were watching Hotel Babylon last night and it did not seem perfect.

I noticed a repeat of The Bill was on last night, so thought I'd try out this red button stuff (new Humax user). When I switched over, it was in the middle of adverts and the red button didn't work. Once the ads finished after half an hour or so (), the red button logo came up and I switched over successfully.

I didn't stay until the next ad break, but what happens then? Do they stop transmitting in HD for the break? Otherwise why didn't the red button work when I first switched over?

Oh, and as others have noted, I thought the lip sync was pretty poor.

Of all the HD channels I've seen on my box, ITV-HD is the only one with lip sync issues.

On ITV HD the sound track occasionly fails to properly synchronise. Tuning off 103 (977) and back generally fixes it.

I don't know if any final decision has been made, but originally they were talking about using 720P initially, upgrading to 1080i in the future, and even eventually moving to 1080P - which I think is just a pipedream.

It may well do so, but then there's no guarantee you'll see the fabled red button again! Not always wise to change channels with ITV-HD.

Thanks - noticed this the other night and even the missus saw the lipsync - forget what it was now but it was unwatchable!!!
i experiance lip sync issues from time to time on various channels, and with various devices...
so far, i have always found that tuning out of a channel and then back in again brings it back in sync. cant say i done it on itv hd direct...i did while watching through foxsat hdr though, and again that fixed it.
just a thought!

EDIT-just notice above post .... i'll get my coat

Apart from the adverts you don't need the red button prompt it just works. If you happen to be recording ITV HD you don't need the red button anyway, you go straight to ITV HD.

Did anyone else only get sound when they pressed the button for tonight's ITV HD offering of Blue Crush?

In the UK it always seems to be we want to do this...but we can't afford it so we will do this instead as it's cheaper and half measures are better than nothing.

you do on my box Graham
Hi GC, Is that you don't get ITV HD when you tune to the channel (103 or 971) you set up the recording on, or that you can't get back to ITV HD without a red button prompt ?

It may be the other tuner has to be recording as well thus forcing the ITV recording tuner to go to HD instead of SD

I must admit I generally happen to be recording BBC HD at the same time as ITV HD so that could explain it. Will have a play next time there's an opportunity.

Hi Graham. If I tune to 103 during an ad break I can't get in to HD without the red button prompt I have to wait for the programme to restart.

Yes mine's the same, hence "apart from the ads" comment. in the OP. There's no problem though if the lip synch is out when you first tune to ITV HD and go to say 101 and back to 103, pressing the red button takes you back to HD even if the prompt ain't there.
