right this is the situation im living in the republic of ireland sharing a house with a mate he has sky in his sitting room on a basic package i would like to connect a quad lnb and run 2 cables into my bedroom.
now instead of connecting the spare sky box i have and just resetting it to a english freeview box i want some kind of system like sky+ im hearing a lot about some humax box, my question is what box if any can i just connect the 2 cables direct from the dish to, and will it work here in ireland and will the box just be like resetting a irish sky box to all the freeview channels.
does it pick up itv1,2,3,4 bbc three bbc 4 etc so i could record them.
thanks

You would need a quad LNB to connect a 2nd receiver, it is "Freesat" that you will get via satellite not the "Freeview" (just to avoid confusion) IMO the best receiver to get would be the Humax HDR, there are new models by Sagem, Goodmans and Panasonic but all are more expensive (Argos), it would pick up all the channels you mention and more and record them, channel list HERE

Argos in ROI don't sell any Freesat branded products. You have to go to NI or buy online and get it shipped from the UK or from a few guys that sell it on in ROI - but their Euro prices aren't the most competitive. Best price would be shipped from Amazon (you will pay 21.5% Irish VAT on it but shipping is only 7GBP) or Satbuyer (GBP price VAT @ 15% shipping £22). I have never used Satbuyer so can't say if they are ok or not.
