Nope - you get water thru foods as well as other beverages (but not alcohol). I'll try and drink more water in hot weather or when I've been exercising but I think I'm getting enough water anyway as I don't normally feel dehydrated. What kind of benefits were you expecting though?

When I was a lot more healthy than I am now () I always did 2L of water a day.... I found myself less hungry (body often mistakes thirst for hunger), had glowing skin, more energy... I felt cleansed on the inside??

Maybe I just need to give it a few more weeks??

Opinions do differ on it - some people disgaree with bottled water, tap water has been slated, the amount (2L) has been questioned etc.... BUT I am pretty sure that drinking "enough" water doesn't do you any harm!!

Before - as a long term thing - it did aid my healthy lifestyle. I guess I need to plough on!!

All my trips to the loo count as exercise so there is a silver lining LOL!

oh - yeah water is good for making you less hungry and aiding weight loss. I think the glowing skin is probably due to other factors. More energy? hmmmm...not sure. I find being more active gives me more energy....if I drink too much water, it tends to make me feel lethargic.

I don't think a few more weeks will make a difference unless you do more activities. I find certain exercises (eg squats) can certainly help you feel 'cleansed'...eep...hope that's not too much information!

Well I used to have lunch at 12.30 and not don't feel slightly hungry until 2pm, so I no longer have a snack later in the day?? So all good on that front!

When I said 'cleansed' I think I meant more psychologically?? Like I am drinking something 'pure' (well better for me than tea, juice or diet drinks!!)

Nope. I keep trying it, but like you said, just need the loo more often!

I don't seem to be able to drink a lot (of anything) for some reason, but do try and drink more than I used to. Unless water is really cold, I find it boring and am much happier with a cup of tea.

I do, most days I drink close to 3 litres. It definitely helps with good skin, flushing out the toxins and nice fresh breath. If I don't drink enough I get very listless and headaches from being dehydrated.

Nope, I think that's why I get headaches during the day as well. I'm so slack, I'm going to get up right now and get a glass of water.

I drink loads...
Its the only thing I tend to drink, I probably reach 3/3.5 litres a day, depending on what I'm doing.
If I drink less, I get a dry throat which doesnt seem to go away, and just feel a bit... blah.
I use those 750ml bottles you can get and refill those, and keep them in the fridge. That way, they are always cold and I find you drink more if it feels refreshing? That way as well I can keep an eye on how much I'm drinking! I also find, if its there in front of me, I drink it without realising.
I used to have a little routine lol, I'd drink one bottle in the morning before I went to work, another bottle before lunchtime, another bottle at lunch, another bottle between lunch and finishing work, then two or three more at home. Adding that all up, thats 4.5 litres. Didnt feel like that much though!

I watched a documentary recently and it basically exposed the whole, 'drink 2ltr of water a day' advice as myth.

They used a set of twins; one was to drink whatever she liked and the other twin was to drink at least 2 litres of water a day with whatever else she was drinking (tea, coffee, juice etc) for 2-4 weeks. (I can't remember)

They had all sort of tests done prior to starting and also finishing the 'experiment' and in the end, they found there was no significant health benefit obtained from drinking the water.

Everytime I'm loading up on squash, tea and coffee and feeling guilty, I think of that documentary ;P

Also in the documentary, they showed that eating tomato puree every day has great restorative effects for the skin (something to do with cooked tomato containing more lycopene than raw, thereby protecting and helping sunburn and UV damage).

What is the reasoning behind the 2 litres a day thing? The idea of forcing yourself to drink 2 litres whether you're thirsty or not seems a bit funny. Surely your body lets you know when you need to take more fluids in – you feel thirsty. I find it hard to drink water unless I'm thirsty but I'd have no trouble drinking 2 litres of tea.

Yep, unfortunately the water I drink has fermented Apples and sugar in it.

deffo don't drink the 2litres a day mainly because i don't like water and this could explain the constant headaches that i have been getting lately and the mother said it was because i was drinking enough fluids so over the last few weeks i did try to increase it but only with dilute juice and loads of ice

Load of tosh - you drink when you are thirsty. Forcing water down yourself will achieve nothing.

It achieves making you go to the toilet more often.

Actually that's not entirely true!! {depending on what you believe}

Thirst is actually the last sign your body needs water, the theory is (again depending on what you believe I guess!) is that you should drink water at regular intervals in order to avoid the feeling of thirst

Just last week I decided that I should drink 2 litres of water a day, plus whatever water was in my food. I found it rather annoying - all the trips to the loo and I thought that it caused me to get more spots (although this could be the water flushing out the toxins, but I have no idea!)

I wonder if anyone can do this for a long period of time?!

Thirst is a sign of dehydration, you should avoid ever feeling thirsty.

I drink around 3 litres per day. I'm allergic (asthma) to many of the added ingredients that are in squash and similar drinks.
I used to have a real problem with coke, I drunk loads of the stuff and put on weight. So I cut that out and haven't touched the stuff for about 3-4 years in any of its guises.
So its a cup of tea in the morning, maybe a shot of juice as long as it's a brand such as taste the difference that won't kill me then water all day..
Alcohol is a different matter..

I've been doing it for around three years?
I've definately noticed the difference... although the water did replace lots of coke and lemonade, so thats probably to do with it!
My skin is a lot clearer than it used to be, I dont get as many spots either. Its just become habit now to drink a lot of water, so I'm used to it.
I hate feeling really thirsty though... If I'm really thirsty, I tend to chug a whole bottle (750ml) as quickly as possible, which then just feels a bit wrong
