Not exactly a stranger to these forums as I occasionally browse the posts, but thought it was about time I contributed..lol

I'm likely one of the oldest on here at 68yrs spent most of my life as a TV/Video Engineer, the last 18yrs as service manager for MasterCare UK (now DSG group) before retiring. So I suppose one could say I have a little background in electronics going back to the old duel standard valve TV's in the sixties. These days the brain has slowed down a wee bit however, not that it stops the kids from still expecting me to fix things even when not designed to be repaired easily.

I may have got older, but I still spend small fortunes on gadgets such as iPads and especially computers and my cars. I still do a fair bit of gaming, both on PC and PS3, IOW your've never too old for toys.

So what made me decide to register now? well we have a Humax HDR 500gb which I upgraded to 1tb a while ago which was used in our bedroom.

As the Humax had performed so well I recently decided to cancel Sky completely and get a second Humax, and as the new Humax HDR 1000s 1tb had just been released I decided to order one from HumaxDirect and it arrived this morning.

So I will no doubt be gleaming info & tips from some of the very knowledgable guys on here and hopefully contributing in the Freesat threads and possibly a few others too.

Anyway I'd better cut it off there as this is turning into a book..lol So a big hello to everyone.

Greetings all!

I came across Digital Spy when I Googled keywords about a problem I had with my BT Home Hub.
I found the answer on these forums and decided to join.

hi, been coming here now for a few weeks, skimming over things after finding the site by accident. I decided to bite the bullet and sign up, it looks interesting.

Good morning all
I just joined last night although I've been reading this forum for a few years.
We had our son, his girlfriend, and some of their friends to stay a few weekends back and it amused us that when we all got back from the pub on the Saturday evening, I happened to mention I'd recorded Strictly and there were cheers all round. So there we all were, across the generations, at midnight, glued to the tv, all passing comments on who was good, bad, improved, etc. Just goes to show how this great programme appeals to everyone, long may it continue

Just came accreoss this 'newby intro bit' sorry if I broke protocol, but had something to say and just dived in without looking (as usual) I have (elsewhere) tried to spark interest in some of the things that concern me and was told about DS by a friend. I look forward to discussion and probiblya bit of arguement, debate has always been one of my personal methods of finding out/learning stuff so 'here's to chatting'

Not at all.....it just seems rude to ignore someone when they've gone to the effort of posting on here.

Hi, welcome to DS.

I've never been able to get into SCD.

Hi, welcome to DS.

No need for an apology, it isn't compulsory to post in here before posting elsewhere.

Hi all! Been a lurker for a while and have now taken the plunge. I love the fact that a lot of threads are relatively unmoderated (yes the rude ones) and the bizarre variety of what is discussed on here really makes me chuckle.

In some forums, prepare for the battleground.

Nothing stopping them.

What about him - you seem somewhat fixated on him.
