Is that contractual? I admit the scenario is far-fetched this season but if more British teams make the group stages / drop down from CL its possible in future years. Speaking of which, what if six British teams were to make the group stage?
And you thought the previous scenario was far fetched!

Least unrealistic scenario I can think of: Everton or Fulham win the Europa League this year and don't qualify for Europe via league position (e.g. finish below 7th and don't win a domestic trophy); English Premier League wins the UEFA Fair Play competition and gains a bonus Europa qualifying position; and the team that finishes 4th gets knocked out in the Champions League qualifier. That's 6 English teams already, before you consider any possible Scottish (or, if we're really getting hypothetical, Welsh or Northern Irish) teams to be covered.

I would wildly speculate, in the unlikely event of 6 or more games carrying British interest, that Five would bid for a 6pm kick-off as sixth choice (maybe to show on Fiver). Anything beyond 6th choice and you'd surely be into the realms of betting websites (who I'm surprised haven't already picked up the remaining Europa League games).

ITV's fifth choice game sees reigning champions Shakhtar Donetsk at Toulouse.
Is that 100% confirmed? Here it says that they'll have Villarreal v Lazio:

Don't know where that site gets its info from, but they seem to be making it up. The whole billing is very vague.

ITV4 hasn't issued confirmed listings beyond Wednesday 4th November.

Hmm... I've been using that site for research for a few months now, and it's been quite reliable.

By the way, tvtv.co.uk has the same info:

So what's your source then?

Hmm, is that a recent development, perhaps since the arrival of the world feed commentators you mentioned the other day? I had a quick look on UEFA's website during the first round of group games and didn't see any obvious video coverage then?

Like the uefa cup, will the third place team in champions league after the group stages be entering the europa league? if this is the case this could include liverpool, i bet channel five are hoping for this being first pick this would realy boost they viewing figures or will they keep rotating it??

Also as far as i know channel five have shown all english home games, is this all they going to show? is it two expensive for them to show english clubs live away??

English?

Anyway, Five will always want to show an 8.05pm KO, because that attracts a bigger audience. And it so happens that no British away games have kicked off at that time.

Yes

This is the rule that Completely Devalues this event

Why should someone who loses a competition
be let into a later stage of another competition !!!

With Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Barcelona currently in the Europa League drop in places in their CL groups and a strong chance of either Milan or Real Madrid falling, the lesser picks suddenley look a lot more attractive!

i believe it still the same format they've had for a number of years .....

1st versus 3rd in europa league groups
and
2nd versus 3rd in champions league groups

and it's more of a reportage (that's french )

That won't work, given there are only 8 UCL groups, but 12 UEL groups.

In fact, only the top two in each UEL go through

Which wasn't on Five.
The point was that Five picks 8.05pm ko home games.

And was a 6.05pm KO anyway.

Had it been an 8.05pm KO, it would have been on Five or ITV4 and not ESPN.

It looks likely now that Liverpool will be dropping into the Europa League. Rangers of course still could as well.

Everton should still go through, Celtic look likely to go out, and Fulham look like being decided on the final matchday.

If Liverpool drop into the Europa League I guess Channel Fives first pich each week whilst they are still in the competition will be Liverpool.

BTW does anyone know how the picks work (apart from Channel 5 getting first pick) for the last 32, last 16 and QFs?

Don't know how they'll do the Europa League last 32 draw but I'd guess UEFA will seed it. I suspect the 16 seeds will be:

- 12 Europa League group winners
- 4 best Europa League runners-up (or less likely 4 best Champions League 3rd placers)

Obviously it will be great for Five if Liverpool are in it. However if they are in a tight battle for 4th place in the PL I would expect them to "sacrifice" the Europa League.

The seeds have been accounced.

The 12 group winners and the best 4 3rd placed teams will be seeded.

The only thing in the last 32 draw is that teams can't face each other from the same group, or the same country. And the teams that are seeded will have their 2nd leg at home.

For anyone daft enough to be reading this thread before the highlights show and who doesn't want to know the results look away now.

Fulham have lost 2-1 and Celtic have drawn 0-0.

This mean that Celtic are all but out, they need 2 wins, and even then to rely on other results.

Fulham are now in 3rd they need to win on Matchday 5 to most likely set up a winner takes all matchday 6 decider. They do have though the bottom team at home on Matchday 5.

I think this means Celtic will now be 3rd pick on Matchdays 5 and 6.
