Why did they scrap BT Sport Europe?

BT Sport Europe was always just a BT Sport 3 by another name - the brand allowed them to underline more prevalently that they had acquired the ECL / EL football which used to be on other channels. After the exposure they received last season (helped enormously by Liverpool getting to the EL Final too) they probably don't need to stick with it anymore.

Even though they did use it to show other programming previously, renaming it BT Sport 3 gives (in theory) greater flexibility on content scheduling too.

They didn't, it's been renamed BT Sport 3 and this was done so that they could cleverly rename their Ultra HD channel to BT Sport 4K.

I'm guessing they did this knowing that Sky were launching Sky Ultra HD.

Good start to the Group Stages last night
Solid win for Southamton
A draw for the Irish minnows
A surprise defeat for Man U
A shock home defeat for Inter Milan.

What I dont agree with is BT putting on the red button
Zorya v Fenerbahce

The only reason. they are in Man U's group

Yes, they seem to put the alternative group game on from both Man Utd's and Southampton's group - now obviously Inter Milan has some merit as one of the larger teams currently in the competition but the Zorya match was pretty daft. Any Utd fan will be watching their team in action surely?

I believe they are putting Fenerbahce-Feyenoord on in 2 weeks time. As a Feyenoord fan I'm not complaining but it is an odd decision. Only if the match has a direct bearing on qualification (such as on the last match-day) would the other match from the group really be of interest unless on its own merit. Under which category Zorya-Fenerbahce surely didn't come...especially when they didn't bother showing Teplice-Roma which was definitely a more interesting game.

Great to see more games on TV channels, hopefully that means even more options on the Red Button.”

Not really, the games on TV are just an addition.

Why would anyone in the UK want to watch games in other groups with no UK team? The tournament won't get interesting till the knockout stages anyway.

Is that the same as why would anyone want to watch a World Cup match without a British side playing ???

Some people DO enjoy watching matches with non Britsh teams and players !!!

Not everyone living in the UK is from the UK.

The same sort of people who are living in a little PL bubble of not having a clue who Ralf Rangnick is.

Well, no, because those matches are not played simultaneously with a British side.

I have no idea why people on this forum have difficulty grasping why broadcasters make decisions based upon what the majority of their subscribers might prefer.

The majority of people will watch a Europa League tie, invloving Southampton and Manchester United, because they are English sides. (Hopefully that starting point, is obvious to everyone.) The competition is of minimal interest, to most fans, outside of their own club, or at least outside of the clubs from their own country.

Because it is a group stage, the other match in the group, will be of some more interest to those fans, than other matches in other groups, which don't have English teams in them. If Manchester United happen to be 4-0 up with 10 minutes left, some fans will switch over.

Is there any match you think Judio that BT Sport should be showing, that they are not.

As a Feyenoord fan I'm thrilled that BT are devoting so much coverage to them as they are part of Group A but it makes little or no sense to the average fan interested in the European game (a group into which I also fall).

A Utd fan will watch Utd obviously. Therefore unless the other game in the group merits coverage in its own right or the outcome of that match has a direct bearing on Utd's fate in the group there is little reason to show it over a more attractive fixture being played at the same time. I think most people who are interested in the European game as a whole would feel there are more worthy matches of being shown on MD3 that Feyenoord-Zorya...It's the same for the other group are we going to be treated to Hapoel Beer Sheva-Sparta Prague whilst Southampton are engaged with Inter?

BT seem to have been focussing their attentions on a select few teams - so Schalke shown twice, Ajax and Bilbao likewise. But we've seen nothing of Villarreal, Roma, Anderlecht or St. Etienne to name but a few other teams possibly worthy of coverage at some point in the competition.
