Couple of questions

If Liverpool and Everton are both in the Europa League would they be allowed to play at home on the same night?

Also how does tv coverage work for matchday 5 and 6 when games are played over Wednesday and Thursday? Can ESPN and ITV4 pick any of the 4 slots to show their matches?

Very unlikely. Would think Merseyside Police would have a problem for starters.

Nah, they would not want to play at home on the same night and the police would never allow it in a million years. When they say after the draw "any alterations will be announced at...", thats to sort out if theres any problems like that.

And for your second point, logically its as you say. five will pick their game-at this point probably Fulham v CSKA Sofia as its a "must win". itv and ESPN will just pick their second to fifth choice games as they do now-its just going to be split over the two nights.

Five's next live game is Fulham v CSKA Sofia, as confirmed at the end of their coverage (Weds 3 Dec)

Maybe not on MD5, as they are in a 8.05pm slot

Yes and yes.

ITV and ESPN can choose two games in the same slot, or consecutive games on the same night, or the same slot on different nights or different slots on different nights.

You can watch any of them on uefa.com

Looks like both ITV and ESPN wanted doubleheaders (probably cheaper to produce as well, I don't know) and with Celtic and Everton both playing Wednesday, that's how they've done it

NO! As others have rightly pointed out the police would put a stop to that idea immediately.

My "yes" wasn't to that question.

Well I see three questions and two responses of 'yes' and since "Q:Also how does tv coverage work for matchday 5 and 6 when games are played over Wednesday and Thursday? A:Yes" doesn't make any sense one could be forgiven for thinking one instance of 'yes' was in response to the first question.

Getting back to the Original question !!!

When UEFA do a draw, their computer deliberately seperates clubs
who play in the same city.

Eg Liverpool and Everton

The problem could arise if Liverpool and Everton were in the same batch of seeds
and in the Last 32

d) Group-winners and the 4 best third-ranked in the Champions League group stage play the return leg at home

I think that UEFA would make one of them play on the Tuesday with an early kick off if that happened.

However the way things are Everton may not win their group so the problem will not occur

Liverpool are now in the Europa League.

Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea just to confirm can now not be in the Europa League.

Rangers are out of Europe (Champions League and Europa League altogether.)

This just leaves Everton (should go through) Fulham (probably be decided on the last matchday) and Celtic (probably going out) to try and get through the group stages in the last 2 matchdays.

I think this now means for certain though that Liverpool will be Channel 5s first choice from the round of 32 onwards until either the final itself or when Liverpool go out of the competition.

When a clash has happened with the two Milan clubs, one of them as played their game a week later.

Bit different as they share a stadium but even so - Liverpool and Everton playing on the same night is a total non starter so UEFA will have a problem if it occurs. They are geographically too close meaning traffic would be a nightmare and the public transport is over packed as it is when one team plays, never mind two. Thats before even mentioning policing.

Liverpool won't always be first pick.

Almost certainly Five will pick Liverpool on one leg of each of their games but kick off times, first leg scores and the potential for the likes of Bayern Munich, Roma, Athletico Madrid or Villareal facing Everton or Fulham will be key factors. There are a lot of big teams in this competition and unless Liverpool draw one, Five will mix things up a bit.

Does anyone know when the draw for the round after the group stages is to be held?

Indeed, Five's selection criteria seem to be (in this order):

8.05pm kick off
Home tie
Thursday

There's a lot more factors than that.

Best game for instance. Attempting to cover all British teams...

So it's been a happy coincidence that on the first five matchdays the best game has always been a British club at home with a Thursday 8.05pm kick off.

Whether Fulham vs. Roma was the best game on a matchday that also saw Celtic vs. Hamburg, Benfica vs. Everton, Lazio vs. Villareal and Ajax vs. Dinamo Zagreb is questionable, IMO.

But it could be argued that Fulham v Roma was the best game.

So how comes we have seven games live this week? Two extra games on ESPN. Will they be able to do that on MD6?

And also, can someone please post or direct me to the plan for live coverage during the knockouts - who show's how many games live?
