Isnt it unfair to Channel5 if ITV1 shows games at the same time.”

ITV has paid for the rights so it can do what it wants with them.

It is not as if this is the first time s UEL game has been moved to ITV1.

From next season onwards, will ITV be able to show Europa League matches on ITV1 before the Quarter Finals stage? The statement released about the new deal said ITV1 can show matches involving British teams from the Quarter Finals stage onwards but will they be able to show Group and Ro16/32 matches on ITV1 if they wish on a match to match basis? Say, there's a big Liverpool Europa League group match, surely they will try to show it on ITV1 or will it have to be shown on ITV4?

Will have to make the most of the 'Thursday Night Channel 5' chants as I believe from next season the EL rights are with ITV and ESPN.

Sorry if this has been covered in one of the various football threads, but how have ESPN ended up with both the Man City and Stoke games this week? Presumably they were second and third choices, and from what I remember of previous discussions about rights, ITV and ESPN have alternated who has second choice from one matchweek to the next, but never second AND third?

ESPN tend to always get the games which are NOT Thur 1800 and 2005

ITV 4 always stick to only the Thursday games

Oh sure, I've seen ESPN show additional games in the past, but always assumed those were 6th/7th choices and so on. I wasn't aware that games not in the designated Europa kick-off "slots" would be allocated separately to the regular picking system?

Basically, I'd have thought that if ESPN wanted the City game tonight as their 2nd pick, then ITV would have been free to take Stoke as 3rd pick; or if ESPN chose Stoke as 2nd pick then ITV would have preferred City at 5pm on a Wednesday to either of the games they've got tomorrow night?

Bad news is the end of FTV HD on C5 HD. ITV4 HD is a pay channel.

Only hope is the odd match on ITV1 HD.

ITV has picks 4 and 5 on Matchday 8 (which is what this week is). That has been the case throughout the current contract.

Cheers Arius. Memory failure on my part, then.

Why is C5 HD not FTV? Is it going in the Sky pack?

I will say tonight's C5 Freesat SD pic is lousy - for once I'm watching Freeview because it's better - I'm on the second set, some bloody french guy cooking on the main set.....

No, he meant that as Channel 5 won't have the Europa League next season that there will be no more FTV HD

I thought so, the freeview pic seemed much smoother. It also pixellated a tad towards the end of the game, dunno if that was at my end or theirs? I very rarely suffer from pixellating pix, but then again I very rarely watch Channel 5

The picture on C5HD (Sky) was absolutely atrocious tonight. Constant pixelation and artifacts showering the entire screen for the whole game. Subtle it wasn't.

Thank god they've lost the rights to next year - it's difficult to watch

Bit OTT. ITV4 picture quality on Freeview at least is terrible, so definitely a step backwards for the majority of viewers.

The match looked fine tonight on Freeview SD.

I noticed that too. It was like the picture was being "forgotten" every few seconds, and had to keep being reconstructed in full, requiring a high bitrate and lots of bandwidth, rather than only being adjusted for changes.
