Europa League changes per TV Sports Markets:

- Winner of Europa League qualifies for play-offs to Champions League or automatically if CL winner also qualifies via league place

- Teams directly qualifying for Europa League group stage increase to 16 from top 12 associations compared with 6 from top 6

- Centralisation of perimeter advertising rights

Also:

- Uefa expects Europa League TV rights fees to increase by 30% in next rights cycle as tournament “matures”

But not until the following season

So if you win the EL in 2013/14 you only get the Trophy !!!!

Could be a step to re-introducing a 3rd competition.

My idea was to reduce EL group stage teams to 16 (with a focus on higher ranked associations). 8 go through to knockout stages to be joined by 8 CL teams. EL teams to play second legs at home with group winners facing 4 lowest CL seeds.

3rd competion would be an FA Cup of Europe following the League Cup model (one leg, no replays, two legged semi).

I believe Sweden have something like this already as when there for work on Europa League nights one of the TV channels has a studio based Soccer Saturday type show but with video of the games so goals and stuff shown and they refer to watching the actual games on their streaming service.

Linfield beat IF Fuglafjřrdur 5-0 on aggregate and will now play Greek side Skoda Xanthi in the 2nd round. Xanthi only qualified for Europe because Panathinaikos and Giannina didn't get a UEFA licence.

....despite that Xanthi are much tougher opposition than IF, so I can't see Linfield getting any further.

Which channel has first priority for Europa League games this season? (More than likely to show all Tottenham games)

All first and second picks are on ITV.
Third, fourth and fifth picks are on BT.

Tottenham are not yet in the Group Stages !!!

Wigan are the only team qualified so far

If they mess up badly Arsenal could be in the Europa League as well !!!

Tottenham are almost certainly going to get through the qualifying round, going by the quality of the non-seeded teams. Last time they beat Hearts 5-0.

You're right about Arsenal though, them and Celtic (or Cliftonville ) could drop down from the Champions League

2nd Qualifying Round (18 & 25 July):

Malmö FF (SWE) v Hibernian FC (SCO)
Rosenborg BK (NOR) v Saint Johnstone FC (SCO)
Xanthi FC (GRE) v Linfield FC (NIR)
HNK Rijeka (CRO) v Prestatyn Town FC (WAL)
Trabzonspor AŞ (TUR) v Derry City FC (IRL)

Pretty strong opposition for all British & Irish teams. Would be a surprise if any of them survived.

Swansea City and Motherwell will join the competition in the 3rd Qualifying Round.

It's hard reading this as a Liverpool supporter with us not being in Europe this season, I know many are indifferent to the Europa League, but I'd rather be in it than not.

If St Johnstone finish the upset v Rosenborg, that is a cracking draw for them. Would be good to see a Swansea v Hibs British tie. Tough task though.

Motherwell I think have a winnable tie too against Krasnodar.
