I was looking at the UEFA fixtures and thinking if I were in BT/ESPN's shoes which games would I pick. And I'm surprised they've gone for Lyon's games, I think Slovan-Sevilla would be a more interesting game

Once Swansea and Spurs have qualified which looks certain, wouldn't it h ave been better for ITV to show Wigan matches. I suppose they are after ratings and cash so it was always unlikely. Wonder what they will do when Celtic drop down.

I think BT are showing adverts confirming their games, but I can't remember what the other three were. One of them was Valencia's match I think.

It seems like a no-brainer to continue to focus on the two Premiership teams, even after they have qualified for the next round. I imagine ITV will latch onto to Celtic on the assumption they are in th Europa collowing the CL group stages.

Poor BT Sport, showing Wigan in the Europa Cup pretty much sums up where they are at the moment. Still, very early days, the only way is up.

Not really their fault though is it, more ESPN's. If they fail to get decent CL or EL rights this time around then that would be bad for them.

It would be nice if BT bothered to put a readible schedule on the Internet like ESPN used to

7 Days in advance is rubbish

I think you are right, it has to be better if they are going to get anywhere.

It was truly a shocking deal for ESPN, on top of the poor 3rd pick in group stages they still then only get 4th and final quarter final and no semi final!!

I think they will end up with first picks in the new deal with very least a semi final and maybe shared coverage of final.

ITV must of been licking their fingers all the way to the back with this current deal.

But at the same time, it's just unfortunate for them that it was a small team like Wigan that qualified, rather than (for example) Newcastle or Everton, who I'm sure would bring higher viewing figures. Just a bugger for them that the first year of them having these rights they're left with a middling Championship team, rather than a top 6-10 PL team.

But then ESPN/BT would have been left with Swansea who are also not a bankable TV draw.

With the Europa League you take the risk with 3rd pick that it will be the League Cup winner or FA Cup finalist, and neither of those two is a top team as they focus on PL and CL.

They must hope than 1 or 2 of the English teams and Celtic drop from the CL into the Europa League knock out stages.

Oh don't get me wrong I understand that, I more mean in the sense that it's unfortunate for them that the 2 teams that qualified from the cups are (with all due respect to the 2 teams) lowly teams, rather than 2 bigger teams. I've no doubt BT will have been hoping when they got the EL rights that the FA Cup Final might have been between for example Man City and Liverpool, with the Capital One Cup Final between Arsenal and Everton (for arguments sake), so they were basically guaranteed if not a major ratings puller, then a team who would bring in more viewers than a Wigan or Swansea would (or Bradford, had they won last season and got to this stage).

You could argue that it's better BT now sticks with Wigan otherwise Wigan fans who subscribed to BT to see them won't get value for money, and it's easier for all fans if they stick to the same channels throughout the campaign, rather than consistently switching between the two.

The Radio Times and the EPG both suggest that ESPN aren't showing any matches next week, they're showing college football, and because they seemingly don't want to show them on both BT channels they're only showing two games on BT Sport 1, Wigan and AN Other. The number of people watching the ESPN games must be minute anyway.

That's true, it's been quite rare in recent seasons for the FA Cup and the League Cup both to have been won by a team outside the big names. You look in 2007, for example, where Chelsea won both cups and beat Man U in the FA Cup Final, so both cup places went to the league.

I think in any case the Europa League is small fry for a TV contract, but in the next deal my guess is BT will get everything bar the first pick each week, and that'll be fairly decent for BT - they' would get exclusivity in one of the time slots and most seasons would get coverage of 'top' clubs.

At the moment, the third pick downwards is rubbish for them. Europa League may not swing too many subscription decisions, but to make myself as an example, I'm perfectly happy with watching what ITV show and have no regrets about not watching/not having BT

BT seemed to have missed out the 1800 game they are showing on ESPN

So bids should be in by now for the next set of rights - predictions for who will get what? As I said in the Champions League thread, while I'm not sure what the breakdown of packages is with the Europa League, I imagine BT will want better rights than they have currently.
