Why aren't there less discs on Blu-ray box sets?

Isn't Blu-ray supposed to have a shitload of space on each disc? Why do box sets still exist in Blu-ray?

Here's an example. Lost 'Series 2 Complete' has the same amount of discs on DVD and Blu-ray. SEVEN DISCS. With a runtime of 1071 minutes.

Granted, the Blu-ray has to accomodate everything being in HD, but still. There's a colossal amount of space on Blu-ray discs.

I guess the main reason is percived value. Would you pay £48 (on play.com) for 2/3 disks. I know I would not.
It's probably the same reason double sided disks aren't used as dvds very often.

Yes Blu-ray has considerably more capacity on a single layer let alone a dual layer but the simple fact is that a native HD programme is huge compared to it's SD equivalent and that don't skimp on bitrate plus the HD audio tracks take up a lot more space as well.
Packages that have extras in HD also bump up the disk requirements.

Now if you wanted SD resolution content on Blu-ray then yes 1 disk could hold a whole season.

An average Blu-Ray feature with HD audio can average around a 30-40mbps bitrate, and the average DVD feature is around 7mbps.
A dual-layer DVD is 9.4gb, and a dual-layer BD is 50gb. The increased size in media compared to bitrate is pretty much proportionate.
