Humax Remote has stopped working
NewWorldMan

Same symptoms as described in this thread. but also I get no response when operating the front panel of the pvr either. I've done all the battery stuff described there.

The other thing is that right now something is being recorded. I don't know if that is a factor, but I could try the other suggestions once it's finished - 10 minutes to go.

I've had the box for just under 2 months. This is the first problem.

yes best wait for the recording to end and then see if the front panel or the remote respond. If not the power off and back on again see if that works

Well, here's another thing. The recording is still going, even though its should have stopped almost half an hour ago! I'm pretty sure I didn't have something else set up.

Will try switching off and switching on. I'm about to eat so will try in a while.

One other thing, in that thread dustydot wrote this about half way down.

"the remedy from Humax is to remove the batteries press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then replace the batteries."

You replied just below. By the power button does he mean the "standby" button? If so, I haven't tried that yet.

yes the idea is to remove any residual charge that may remain after removing the batteries

Tried the standby button trick. That didn't work. So finally I switched it off and back on again. After booting up it now works.

However, I noticed that the recording never budged from Zone Thriller - Queen of Swords from 3.00 this afternoon. A simultaneous recording was due to start on Movies4Men. That never happened. Instead Zone Thriller has recorded 316 minutes instead of 60! So this glitch must have upset things somehow. I had recorded a few other things earlier in the day, e.g., Click and Dateline, on News 24. They're both OK.

Well, at least it's working now. Let's see how long it keeps behaving itself for.

In case you are not aware you check an Infra Red remote control by using a digital camera.

You point the remote at the camera lens and look at the viewing screen on the camera. When you push a key on the remote you should see the front of the remote flashing on the camera screen.

The other test is to off tune an AM radio. You then simply hold the remote near to the radio and when you press a button you should hear a series of interference pulses on the radio speaker.

Just a thought to help you confirm the remote is actually working.

Good luck.

If it does continue to play up then a factory reset would be a good idea, but as you say see how it goes.

I once started a recording at 10pm and it was still going the following morning. As there was nothing wrong with my box at the time I suspect there was a missing "end" marker.

Before yesterday I had only had one failed recording and that was on Movies4Men. It so happened that yesterday it went wrong during a simultaneous recording of Zone Thriller and Movies4Men. I also recorded an M4M film early this morning which appears to be OK. But I was wondering if M4M is more prone to glitches?
