I've only just got hold of 'Come Away With Me'!
Very laid back. |

When I got her first album I wasn't that sure about it. I was also slightly annoyed that after all the big fuss made about her she only wrote 2 songs on the album.
But I listened to it again recently and really liked it. |

And when you do listen to it, it is going to be the exact album you want to hear there and then!

Has anybody got this album? How does it compare to Come Away With Me?
I really like the single Sunrise. |

Even though it came out on Monday 9th feb, I picked it up in Tesco's the day before (very naughty Tesco - didn't Woolworths get into trouble for doing the same thing a few years ago?)
I think it is a very good album, some superb tracks on there including a duet with Dolly Parton which is flawless. Highly recommended. |

Highly recommended. Has the UK release got that Copy Controlled system? You know the one that turns a CD into something that isn't a CD therefore can't be played in a car or other CD based systems that the record company do not approve of. |

I'm glad its a good album. I mean I never thought she would be a one-hit wonder sort of artist, but was just worried that she would pull out her format out for too longer period.

Yes I believe it *IS* copy controlled, probably with CDS200 (Cactus Data Systems) - an improved version of Macrovision's SafeAudio!
I found this out because it played like s**t on my Sharp laptop - there is major bass distortion throughout. I then tested it on a cheapo CD player and the sound was perfect - it was also excellent on all my other CD players (and DVD players too). Luckily I found one PC that could read the CD properly (in other words it reads the audio as if it is a CD player). I even scratched out the data track and the second audio session supposedly containing the erroneous error correction info (which used to fix these kinds of protection) and sadly that no-longer defeats this type of protection. It seems you need a Maxtor or equal quality drive and almost no others will give you the right quality. Also I know of no software fix on the web for it. Sadly I think the time is coming for me to get a quality CD player and an optical lead into my PC to record such hacked CDs at 1x speed - because I always back up my CDs to a creative jukebox to hear away from home - and this will not stop me - it will just annoy me ![]() Anyway - looking at the CD there is no Compact CD logo anywhere in the printed material or on the CD. I know Philips ban anyone from using the logo on non-compliant CDs - so... that about confirms it then... |

Even if they are not copy protected most CDs still down't display nowadays.

I got the disk yesterday from Virgin Record and it copied fine from my Sony DVD-RW DRU-500A drive.
I used J River Media Center to rip. |

I haven't yet come across a CD that cannot be copied. However, Sony drive is very sensitive and would not always copy. LiteOn drive is much better.
I don't think Norah Jones is copy protected in any strict sense. |

I'm not fully sure myself now. I have found another PC that copies it OK. However, if you lok right at the outside rim of the disc - not at the data track but the outer 2 millimeters you'll see another track hidden away - it's only since I scratched this out that the 2nd PC will copy the CD correctly.
Still, if everyone else can rip it OK then great - maybe it's just me. - Robin. |
