Anyone know what the plan is with the existing BTV box once Freeview HD arrives at the end of the year?

BTV's freeview tuners are supposed to support HD transmissions.

Don't know where the info is - but certain of it.

Blimey that's impressive. They've done a great job in putting all this together haven't they (leaving a few anomalies aside)?

Not 100% sure but I thought that the BT Vision box only has a DVB tuner see PDF spec

http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/d...05_pss_eng.pdf

and that Freeview HD was going to use DVB-S2.

The current BT Vision box does not support DVB-T2 and neither does anything currently on sale.

There was talk of a new Motorola BTV box this Autumn; does anyone know if that's still on the cards and that it'll support Freeview HD?

Yes, it's being trialled internally by BT at the moment. It's Pace that make it - apparently Motorola got the elbow. It also doesnt support DVB-T2 but will in the future via somekind of an upgrade.

i believe the supplier has now being changed to pace, certain bt employees are currently trialing the new box, so hopefully should not be too much longer before we see it

Winter Hill is scheduled to start Freeview HD transmissions from 2 December.

I was talking to BT customer services today about renewal of my contract and they say they have no idea if/when a new Vision box will become available.

One would have thought they should, at least, have some information for people who they are expecting to sign up to 12 month contracts.

I'm not surprised that CS dont know about the Vbox 2 as it's still in the early stages of testing. There's still no hardware out there at all that supports DVBT2 anyway. I'm sure you'll be able to migrate to the Vbox 2 as and when it becomes available - especially if you're in a DVBT2 area.

As usual - most of this is guesswork until BT offically announce the Vbox 2 product and its capabilities.
