I hope this doesn't sound too silly but if you pushed a dalek on its side, how would it get up?”

The man inside who operates it would probably have to get out to right it......

Nah! They'd call up the R.A.C. Dalek with the hoist on the back..

Love to see a return of the Raston Warrior robots. Show the Cybermen of Mondas/Earth what a bunch of fairies they actually are.

While we're at it, why don't we also have a steam-powered TARDIS with a wireless radio set, and Steven Fry as an Oxford-graduate Doctor with a WW2 record?

What is it about people pleading for a step backwards? What kind of stories would you have with gas shooting, immobile Daleks? The Doctor would simply have to go upstairs or hold his breath to beat them. This is just reactionary nostalgia.

Don't we already have a pump action, hit it with a hammer, bric-and-brac TARDIS? Steam would be a step forward.

Have to say your reaction is a bit uncalled for. Did you actually read all the OP's points?

How would making the Cybermen more mobile so they can actually run after you be a step backwards? How is that reactionary nostalgia?

I don't necessarily think downgrading the Daleks would work, seems too Planet of The Daleks to me where they took away their guns. But there's nothing wrong in suggesting how they could be done differently.

Anyway there is plenty of evidence to support immobile gas shooting Daleks, given such Daleks appeared in very strong stories in the past.

I agree. Daleks or Cybermen the Raston lads would show them the door...

I'm sorry to have to do this but the pedant in me needs to say that it was Death to the Daleks and not Planet. Not trying to be a knob it just grabbed me

But I agree with what you say.

You are absolutely right. I knew 'Planet of...' didn't seem right. Bad Listentome! I will punish myself by missing the next 3 specials.

I remember having a Dalek like that, must have been about 40 years ago... it was inflatable, and had a sand-filled round base, so if you hit it, it wobbled, but returned to a perpendicular posture.

Rani? Did I miss something?

Yes, give the new Cybermen a rest, but let the Daleks have a mention with the new Doctor (say, half a Dalek lying around in a quarry somewhere to start a mystery off). Bring back the Ice Warriors, though - not necessarily as baddies - and another character for Philip Madoc to play (in Welsh), and a visit to an old (literally) companion or two (not to save life as we know it, just for tea) like Jo or the Brigadier (Lethbridge-Stewrat, of course) or Ace.

I think it would likely be too costly. Doctor Who can afford makeup and prosthetics creatures that appear through a whole episode, or CGI ones that can only be shown for a minute or two. Also, while the I Robot design was great, since the Cybermen are "upgraded" humanoids, they pretty much have to be our size or larger.

Even with prosthetics, budget comes into play. That's why you never see more than one Judoon with his helmet off.

It was a good episode until Hartigan's conversion into the pilot of that giant.”

The basic premise of the conclusion of that episode is also stolen from 'Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.' (2003).

In the Godzilla film, MechaGodzilla is constructed from the bones of a Godzilla & the re-awakening of that Godzilla's spirit causes MechaGodzilla to malfunction.

In 'The Next Doctor' it is the re-awakening of Miss Hartigan's spirit / humanity that causes her to destroy the Cyberking.

Also, the way The Doctor (with Martha's help) defeats The Master in 'Last of the Time Lords' is a direct lift from the 'Gamera' films.

In the films, Gamera can absorb what is refered to as mana, or the living essence and energy of life on Earth.

In 'Last if the Time Lords', The Doctor heals himself using the psychic energy from the emotional thoughts of the surviving humans Martha has met during "The Lost Year"
