Bush DAB hifi OR Hitachi DAB hifi?!
Link to Bush specs and Hitachi specs!
Which of these is a better buy?! Ideally I'm looking for a hi-fi with DAB, FM/AM, CD and mini-disc with LP... but MD appears to be dying away slowly - so maybe I should save up for an MP3 player instead! |

Personally I'd lean towards the Bush, it looks like a "proper" hi-fi where the Hitachi looks like one of those £60 things you see down the market, and it seems to have more features. The Hitachi speakers look rather naff too.
But as with all these things, try before you buy... |

I have the Hitachi one, costs £199 from Dixons online (£299 in-store).
Sound is fantastic, so are the features. I tried them both and found for the £100 difference the Hitachi sounded good. The Bush was surprisingly good considering the brand name, infact probably sounded better, but the £100 off swung it. It has a mirror effect front, and a bright blue LED lighting it up, so it looks far from cheap. Now the bad point!!! My hi-fi had a problem, whereas when you advanced to the next track on a CD it started the next track a second or so into the track, maybe not a problem to some, but on those big guitar rifts (ala Sweet Child Of Mine) it misses the first note!, I have taken it back to a store 3 times for replacement, all 3 had exactly the same fault. Called Hitachi head office support centre to see if it was a generic fault, there response was that it was nothing to do with them, Curry's and Dixon's have imported them from a foreign company, these units are not intended for UK use, and as such will not be covered by any Hitachi warranty! Still, I am semi-happy with mine, so will probably keep it. Just as a footnote, I notice the site you link too does not mention that, 1. the Hitachi also has 2 x Aux inputs, 2. it has NO headphone socket. |

Sorry for hijacking this old existing thread but it didn't seem worth opening another for this query.
We've just picked up this Hitachi unit for £199 at Dixons and it looks and sounds great. The only niggling thing is that when it's in standby the CD display shows --:--, but we can't figure out how to set the clock! (We assume it's a clock). The instruction manual doesn't say and we've tried holding down the various buttons. Can anybody help? |
