Can someone help please.

I've had the humax since Xmas now, generallly been pleased with it despite reading about other people's issues reported on this forum.

However, my use of it has been infrequent so far as it sits along a sky+ box which is used for most day to day watching/recording.

I have just noticed that I seem to have a problem with missed scheduled recordings. The first recording would take place but subsequent recordings would be missed. Recently this has happened with Dragon's Den and The Street. To try and test the problem I set up the maching to record SE Today which broadcasts the regional news every lunch time. The first four of five days recorded no problem. Then we went away on holiday and neither this (nor Dragon's Den) have recorded.

The box is switched off most of the time (red light showing) and is only turned on infrequently and of course was not turned on at all for the 10 days or so we were away.

Is there some sort of problem with the EPG being updated which would cause the programs record times to be missed?

I assumed that this gets updated automatically some time during the middle of the night/early morning as per other digital freeview boxes.

Is there some sort of problem here or am I barking up the wrong tree? Any other reason why I might be having these problems?

Try a factory reset and/or set the time to record 1 min before its due.

The EPG seems to update all the time to me.

The EPG updates slowly in the background, whilst in Standby, not as quick as when you press Guide when the box is on, but quick enough to catch changes in the EPG for timed recordings. It doesn't do an "overnight download" of the EPG like some Freeview boxes.

My Dragon's Den has recorded OK every episode; and I was away this weekend, so the box was in Standby the whole time, and it recorded every one of its Timers.

You don't suffer from power cuts do you? If the box is in Standby during a power cut, it doesn't recover the correct clock time until the box is manuall brought out of Standby, and subsequent timers will fail until it is.

As Flyer10 suggests, try a Factory Reset, if not.

Actually we do suffer from the occasional power cut - only 10 minutes or so and have had a few over the last couple of weeks. When we got back from holiday my house alarm was showing an ac power failure.

So if it's not being switched on frequently or if there's a power cut whilst we're away then that may be the problem!

That looks like it then!

It will survive a power cut of about 25 secs OK, but anything longer than that is the problem, if in Standby.

I had a similar problem yesterday and the day before with both the BBC News at One and the regional news being missed even though they have been recorded properly for weeks previously. We have had no power outages recently. The timer is set to "Auto" so I just assumed that the BBC, or whoever, forgot to send the start recording signal. Annoying.

Before I go and start flicking switches, does anyone know what would happen if you had the foxsat set to power up at, say, 00:30 and off at 01:00 and a power cut occurred at, say, 17:00 for 1 hour.

Will the foxsat think the time is 00:00 when the power is restored, and then 30 mins later wake up and get the correct time? This is not a programme schedule time, but using the Menu ... Settings ... Time ... Power On/Off function, which may be held differently as it only requires the 24 hr clock, and no dates.

If this works, then setting an on/off time for soon after midnight just before going away on holiday (or just leave it set) MAY get around the missed scheduled problem [though not if the power outage covers the period the programme is being shown].

Cool idea, I will set a recording for tommorow morning and simulate a power cut before going to bed. Watch this space.

You don't need to wait till tonight once the powers turned of the box thinks it's 0:00 anyway

Unfortunately this idea doesn't work the stb remains dormant it seems the box needs to be booted up for the internal clock to advance from 0:00 so it still won't recognise the auto on time as it will never get there without intervention

What if the auto on time is set for 0:00 ?

I tried this - I set the on time for 00:01 and off time for 00:05. It didn't work

As an aside we had a power cut today and it missed a recording because I was at work (and there was no one else around to bring the box out of standby)

No afaid that doesn't work either.

edit: now thats strange the first time I tried I had 'Auto on' set for 0:05 and when I went to disable it it remained as I had set it, but this time when I went to change it 'Auto on' was set at --:--

So is this one situation where the Sky+ box has an advantage?

We often get small power cuts in our area - just a few minutes or so for no apparent reason yet I've never lost a scheduled recording. Thinking about though the Sky box is nearly always on so I suppose there's plenty of opportunity to correct the time.

No the Sky box merely turns off the video and audio output circuitry in standby (and power on one lnb on some boxes), everything else is powered up so the box recovers the time immediately power is restored. Not so green but loses less recordings.
