That's because only a selected few singers can sing live. It's a shame the viewers have to be tricked.

Hardly "being tricked" when it has been the case for many many years on any number of programmes (music, variety, or even comedy), sometimes for purely timing purposes. Anyone who thinks that it's the exception is lacking real-world experience.

I think a lot of it was due to scheduling - most singers didn't want to have to hang around until 9pm at night to record their bit so they got it out of the way first.

First sensible thing they've done with this series. Sunday nights free again, no chance of spoilers leaking and more tension with it all on one night. I'm really pleased.

I'd not though about that actually .

Although I enjoyed waiting for the spoilers, it'll be good being able to watch the Dance-off and results without knowing the inveitable .

Surely that should be the other way around, as now they have to fill a peak time on a Sunday evening?

And I agree 90 minutes is not a whole night, although personally a whole night of SCD would be just fine with me!

As I said before I think this is the BBC's move to having the big show on a Saturday night, just like it used to be in the old days when ITV had to put films on to compete with the BBC!

Great news. Finally the BBC make a change that I like, I much prefer having it all on one day of the weekend...and live! And hopefully there will be less waffling on from the judges. The results show last year had way too much filler.

the music guests haven't always been pre recorded. The week I was at the SCD studio filming my Jim'll Fix It, Madness were on, and they went on live. I chatted to them outside my dressing room, before and after they went on

I agree I much prefer it all on same night! I wonder how long the programme will actually be though?

Ecstatic! Wonderful news! Finally the results show will be back to how it was and we'll all be so tense when it comes to who is voted off. I really missed the surprise/suspense element of the last two series' for these reasons. I can't wait now! Just a few good celebrities and that might even make up for the Karen/Arlene nonsense.

Apparently it's about 90 mins, but no doubt it will change from week to week.

That's what I thought. You can work out who are pre-recorded by watching the audience around them. Although cleverly edited, it is always jerky and just that but 'off'.

how can anyone possibly miss the Sunday night show? It was terrible. All excitement and tension taken away, and purely a move by the BBC to extend its flagship, ratings-winning show. It is ridiculous to highlight the ratings on Sunday night as proof of its success. Most people, imo, watched it on sufferance, largely cos there was nothing else on.
The live Saturday night shows were what made Strictly great and the show was going down the toilet spread over two nights, with die-hard fans unable to resist finding out the result online.
I can only think it will be in two parts on a Saturday night, like the old days, cos, as others have pointed out, too much to cram in otherwise.
If you remember the original format, there was less to fit in, with no dance off, just the announcement of the result live, which came at the end of the second show. With a dance off to fit in, it must surely be on over 2 parts. I am personally delighted the BBC has seen sense and scrapped the Sunday night show.
I don't think Alesha Dixon should be a judge though - what are her professional dancing credentials? They should have given a spot on the judging panel to Karen Hardy instead. Alesha is a transparently populist move, to compete with the similarly vacuous, pretty fembot on X Factor panel - Cheryl Cole.

Agree totally. There's no way there can be as much professional dancing with this format as there was last year. I'm gutted too

I'm not sure what I think about this. I'd got used to the Sunday show, and also I'm more likely to be in on a Sunday than on a Saturday (or Friday come to that). But it did seem that they were spreading Strictly a bit too thin last year and so it may be an improvement.

I didn't find it clear, that's why I was asking. Nice to see people on the SCD forum are so friendly.

I don't like the idea. I like a results show later in the evening.

I don't see how they can fit all the dances, have time for voting and have the results in one show - unless they are maybe scrapping the dance-off too for more time.

The first Saturday shows last year where over 90 minutes each with 8 dancers per show.

Thanks

It will be a bit rushed if there's the same amount of dancers as there was at the beginning of last year!

I hope we still get the Professionals Show Dance. I'd rather have the show dance than a singing guest who I quite often wish I could fast forward!

Well how else do you measure success in the TV industry? 1.5m people more watched the Sunday show than the old Saturday shows.

I really don't care either way, but the Sunday night results show was a huge success and, in light of that, the BBC wouldn't pay much heed to complainers on the internet. IMO, this change is nothing to do with Strictly itself and more with trying to hurt X Factor on a Saturday.

It's a popular show. It was bound to attract a good Sunday night audience cos it had no competition on a Sunday night and like I said, many SCD fans detested the pre-recorded Sunday night show but would still watch it because even though it wasn't what they wanted, they enjoyed it enough to make do.
That's not success. Success is offering viewers a show that they want. A show of 'maximum return' it may have been but what most SCD fans wanted, no, I don't think so.
X Factor is going down the same road. It's merely a way of extending a popular TV franchise. All the fillers and pointless backstage gossip they had to include in the Sunday night show was about as filling as a salad. As others have said, it was spreading it thin and the key element was lacking - the buzz of the live show.
