I have just bought a BT cordless phone and didn't realise that it would have to be plugged in to the electricity supply and the phone socket at the same time, all the time.

The problem is that the phone socket is on a wall in the hall and the electricity socket is on the opposite wall. That means that when both wires are plugged in, I would have to hop across them any time I wanted to go into the hallway.

I didn't realise that I would have to plug the phone into an electric socket - I don't know a lot about technology

What would you do? I would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

I take it you don't have any phone sockets in any other room?

What flooring do you have in the hallway?

Return it for another (corded) phone which doesn't need an electricity supply, which is what we did recently for exactly the same reason.

A few suggestions:

1) Wire a telephone extension from the master socket going along the skirting, around door frames until you get to a convienient place on the other side. The wire is quite thin so it is possible to make a neat job of it.

2) If there is a room on the other side of the wall where the master socket is with a power outlet you could drill through the wall and put a power socket on the hall side. A job for an electrician.

3) Get the master socket diverted where the wiring enters the building to another room near to a power socket. A Job for BT.
