You could for once have tried to bring a bit of culture to the music forum.

She sang at Charles' and Diana's wedding in a dress that looked as though someone had vomited over it.

Good.

I remember that damn-awful Messiah she recorded with Solti. Even three kids of 11, 12 and 13 (on the New College one) do a better job.

FC (with an intense dislike for singers using intensive amounts of out of control vibrato)

They'd probably heard her singing.

In any case, it would be lost in the chasm of endless "Girlz Aloud r gud init" threads in Music >.>

oh.. apparently she's just giving up on being an opera soprano

she'll still sing on as a concert soprano

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Now when another current soprano dame (who is sixty this year, and hasn't sung a note of opera) retires I will be quite sad

That said, I dislike Ruth Holton's voice as much :s It's too bland.

my favourite soprano is the late Maria Stader

she was mainly a concert soprano, because she was so short in height (well below 5ft), although i think she did perform in a few full-staged operas. Lovely voice

I always liked this lady, thought she was talented and lovely, I remember her saying she would like to be like Tina Turner on a show with Terry Wogan, ever Terry was shocked, what a lovely lady Kiri is.

only famous for singing at charles & di's wedding - an average singer and her maori heritage got her where she israther than talent.

dame my a$%^ - i'm more of a dame than her.

I think Kiri is hugely underrated.

I love her interpretations of Mozart. She can manage the coloratura really well.
When young her voice was fresh and light and then mellowed into a lovely creamy tone as she matured.

Well-done Dame Kiri

I recommend this clip of her singing Exsultate Jubilate, especially from 7.27 to the end

We're opera soulmates then!
I love her voice too - so fresh and clear. My favourite is her Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen out of the Bach cantatas.

Emma Kirkby with Gardiner would be good were it not for JEG's stupid speed. Better than both are Natalie Dessay with Emmanuelle Haim (on Virgin) and Carolyn Sampson with Suzuki. I haven't heard anything else good.

She's actually good - her voice suits most repertoire. Harnoncourt recorded Cantata 199 with her - when he used boys for all the others.
