Likely leaving BT but what are my choices?

I think i've decided after all the disappointments i've had with BT with things this past year alone (I won't go into details) I think the time is right to jump ship. I've narrowed it down to 2 choices (unless there's any better) either talk talk for my line rental OR post office (the post office offers better broadband for me I think which I will likely need to take out too) what would all of you suggest? This isn't about broadband much btw it's more my landline choice.

The PO do a good package (I haven't used myself) which include calls to mobiles at weekends, which has to be a plus even if you only make the occasional call. The whole package including line rental, calls and broadband is £25 (or £20 if you're a light BBand user and can stick to a limit of 5GB)

Not bad at all, and something I would definitely go for as a good package deal.

I'm still happy with my PO phone and broadband package after 6 months. The bb is a resold bt package. I couldn't get the cheaper tt one as my exchange is not unbundled , put your phone number into their site if you are not sure. I'm on the 5gig cap which doesn't provide you with a wireless router (I use my own) but that's fine for my pc , a laptop and a Wii (for surfing). I felt the bt phone bill was so complicated as to be unbelievable and that was one of the reasons I switched. I reckon to be saving about 200 pound a year as just about all my calls are free. There have been several threads about the po package on here , have a search.

The Post Office offerings should be reliable - they're run by BT.

I've heard some people speak well of Talk Talk too. OTOH, others don't.

PO package does sound very tempting (I would go for the unlimited broadband myself personally as I need that freedom for VOIP calls and so on) not too sure about talk talk as I did check them out the other day (put my phone number in) then I noticed on my hub phone that I had about 8 or 9 missed calls in 2 hours! (checked the number on the whocallsme site) and was a talktalk number. Talk about wanting a customer My broadband from BT isn't a problem itself. Just the other factors which has told me I've got to jump ship as to speak.

I switched to the PO a few months ago. They should send you a welcome pack within a week, & switchover should be in 2 weeks time.

Just an update. I was getting concerned as I had recieved nothing by tuesday. I gave them a ring and said my order was incomplete but sales followed it through and due to go live on the 9th september (same day I gotta pay a lot of money to a bill) busy day then Just a question though about their Router (can't find anything on the NETGEAR website) As far as I know it's a DG834GSP. Is there any official pages on that? Just incase I have problems with firmware or anything or likely update to the most recent.

The PO will send you a start up booklet about the modem. It is available on their self care pages at https://account.mypostoffice.co.uk/p...f/DG834GSP.pdf

That's good enough for me. I recieved an apology from talktalk for their constant calling me too in the first place (and it came officially from charles dunstone too)

I switched to PO on 4th August and was sent a Zyxel router which has been very reliable. The PO even sent me a email with the correct firmware due to drop outs on the first couple of days, I have had no problems since.

I've got a Zyxel. Why do I know that? because it's just been delivered to me already (5 days before my go live date) Wasn't sure because they we're taking time in emailing me at first with queries (they didn't basically) but since i've phoned i've got to say so far i'm overly impressed. Long may it continue.

get it hooked up onto the line and chances are your b/band service will be on before the go live date, as sometimes the frames tasks are built as by this day(not appointed) and usually these are actually done a few days before.

O2/Be are pretty good particularly if they have LU in your local exchange. If you switch your mobile phone to them you can get unlimited(within reason) for about £7.95 a month its dearer if you exchange does not have LLU

I have also been told like others above that the Post Office do very good deals and are good. I know a guy in his 70s who moved from BT to the Post Office back in May and has been so far 98% happy withy the service. Hes on the Home Phone with Broadband Standard package paying £20.50 a month and pays £2 a week towards the bill with a Post Office payment card.
